mittelbm on 06 Oct 14Please tell me you remember this commercial?! Jif peanut butter has situated ethos because it is already well known. With the slogan "Choosey mom's choose Jif", they use an enthymeme assuming that ordinary mom[s that don't care as much would choose peanut butter that wasn't as good. The rhetor also uses pathos by showing two cute little boys sharing thier favorite snack, tugging on the audience's emotions.

tollakdd on 07 Oct 14I agree with everything present in the commercial. I think the rhetor of this commercial is trying to show the importance of pathos in advertising. Jif peanut butter is clearly trying to appeal to normal middle class families with young kids. I think this ad is effective because it shows people that normal families just like them use Jif, almost like a social norm in society.

Katie Vagnino on 07 Oct 14Brennan -- yes, the slogan is an enthymeme, but the implied assumption is that being a choosey mom = being a good mom :)
