The World's First Genetically Modified Babies Will Graduate High School This Year - 2 views

  •
I stumbled upon this article on Yahoo and clicked on it because the title intrigued me. I believe this article is rhetorical because it is planned. The word choice is thought out and the topic is explained to those who are previously uninformed. It is responsive and evident by the slew of comments further down the page. Also, the article address the contingent issue of whether genetically alter babies is ethical. This piece shapes knowledge because I learned facts I didn't know about, as well as I'm sure other people learned.
  •
Weird, definitely a contingent issue though. If people found out you were a genetically modified person, you would probably be labeled a freak.
  •
This was interesting to read about. Definitely a rhetorical article!

Junk food in schools - 1 views

I found this interview when searching for rhetoric speeches. Michelle has situated ethos because she has political power as well as the fact that she has been in many commercials similar to this topic before. In addition, Mrs. Obama uses pathos with appealing to the fact that many children go hungry or eat unhealthy and we can do something to help them. Overall, I thought Michelle Obama was very persuasive in this interview and really turned heads to what is going on with the youth of America.
  •
She also uses logos in this interview by saying "9 million kids and more than 22,000 schools" which in turn also helps with pathos since those are very big numbers.

This is a really cool article on how teens come together and have the power to make a statement against their limitations. Whether it's by how they dress or their actions on social media, teens are making their voices heard.

It's interesting to compare the two videos, UWEC and UWO. Very different approaches but they both get their point across and try to persuade you to come.

Making Better PowerPoint Presentations - 0 views

  •
For my segment four project, I am creating a powerpoint presentation. This presentation is intended for me being the teacher and the audience being high school students, as I am educating them about the Amish lifestyle. This source is more specific for teachers and talks about what students like or dislike about teacher's powerpoints. Although directed to teachers, it would be helpful to anyone making a powerpoint.

The definition of an information literate person extends beyond school and application to academic problems--such as writing a research paper--and reaches right into the workplace. Information literacy is also important to effective and enlightened citizenry, and has implications that can impact the lives of many people around the globe.
