An Epidemic of False Claims - 0 views

  •
Competitive researchers and scientists take it too far sometimes and make a claim based on little or fragmented evidence after a tiny sample of the population is tested. Many of these claims are being proven false.

Information Literacy Song - 1 views

This is very funny and also very truthful reworking of Coldplay's hit song "Viva La Vida" with new lyrics. It mainly focuses on why finding research on the web is not as useful as using libraries.
  •
This is real silly, but it did help me understand the concept of information literacy better.

The definition of an information literate person extends beyond school and application to academic problems--such as writing a research paper--and reaches right into the workplace. Almay Commercial - 0 views

This make up commercial uses situated ethos by having Carrie Underwood presenting their product. It also applies to pathos by saying "it use to take me forever", "intense eye color" and "simpler" showing the audience that a smokey eye isn't as hard or time consuming to apply as it use to be.

Quitting Smoking commercial - 1 views

  •
I've seen this commercial a few times and each time it grosses me out. This commercial has an audience of people that smoke, who should quit, but more importantly an audience of people to advise them not to start smoking in the first place. It uses micrologos by showing an example that if you smoke, it could result in you loosing your teeth (among other harmful effects).
  •
I've never seen this commercial, it appeals to pathos because it is intended to scare people to not start smoking.

Dutee Chand: A Woman Banned from Women's Sports - 0 views

  •
This woman who was born with a condition that gives her an athletic advantage over "normal" women (so she is kind of a "freak" in that sense) but her case is resulting in lots of rhetoric that tests our ideas of the boundaries/definitions of gender and sex.

These pictures are very moving and the author intended it to be that way. The pictures appeal to the audiences patriotic side at times and also appeal to sadness or great respect. I know it is long but these pictures are truly worth taking your time to look at.

These pictures are so cool and powerful! I think so many of them appeal to pathos and the emotions of the audience due to both the sadness and the triumphant feelings that the pictures give off. Great visual rhetoric example! Totally worth looking through.
  •
Absolutely incredible. They give you a feeling that there is still faith in humanity. Great example of visual rhetoric!

31 Images That Show The True Face Of The World - 0 views

  •
I came across this article on Facebook and I was really struck by the pictures. This is a great example of visual rhetoric. Each image causes you to think and respond to the culture shown in it. The collection of pictures seeks to persuade the viewers that there is so much more going on in the world than what we know in America. Like it says in the description, our world is not simple or perfect and these pictures show the real struggles in the world. The pictures definitely appeal to pathos, especially each photo with children. Contingent issues like war and gay marriage are shown in the photographs. I love how the pictures can capture an entire story and prompt so much thought.

Brett Favre stars in this commercial for Wrangler Jeans. He advocates that the genes are comfortable and tough. He has situated ethos since he was a football player and is playing football in the commercial in wrangler jeans which also seems like invented ethos.

Junk food in schools - 1 views

  •
I found this interview when searching for rhetoric speeches. Michelle has situated ethos because she has political power as well as the fact that she has been in many commercials similar to this topic before. In addition, Mrs. Obama uses pathos with appealing to the fact that many children go hungry or eat unhealthy and we can do something to help them. Overall, I thought Michelle Obama was very persuasive in this interview and really turned heads to what is going on with the youth of America.
  •
She also uses logos in this interview by saying "9 million kids and more than 22,000 schools" which in turn also helps with pathos since those are very big numbers.
