How much memory will be required? I wonder…
  • applications can be written using your favorite web technologies
  • these apps will run
  • on any standards-based browser
  • largest user base
  • designed to power computers ranging from small netbooks to full-size desktop systems
  • Google Chrome OS and Android overlap

Simple architecture: * WebKit-based Google Chrome * a new windowing system * Linux kernel. Open source, large developer base, large user base. Smart!

Applications that are designed for Google Chrome OS should run equally well in any standards based browser. If I do need to run Google Chrome OS on Mac OS X, I'll probably do so in VirtualBox.
  •
Thinking about laptops that are gathering dust … the OS will run on x86 or ARM. I wonder about other requirements: * memory * display resolution * etc..
  •
A new project, a natural extension of Google Chrome - the Google Chrome Operating System … to re-think what operating systems should be.

As the VP of Marketing and Sales and general front-man for Newton Software, I spend a great majority of my time speaking with HR and corporate staffing professionals about recruiting and hiring. Here are the trends that I believe are here to stay even when, once again, the economy improves and hiring becomes a front-burner issues.

Simplify your Hiring Process - 0 views

  •
Recruiting is a misunderstood art form. For the shortsighted hiring managers out there, the word recruiting brings to mind hours of distraction that could be better spent on their "real job". One thing the recession has taught us (particularly the mortgage crisis) is that any decision based solely on short term ramifications will generally get us nowhere in the long run.

Technology Behind Xbox 360 Project Natal - 0 views

  •
Much has been said about Microsoft's Project Natal since its announcement in the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last June 1. "Natal" was used as the code name of the project because natal means birth and Microsoft considers the latest Xbox 360 video game device as the next generation home entertainment system. It utilizes a motion sensor device that will eliminate the need for a traditional controller and lets the gamer use his full body to interact with the device while gaming.

Local search directory works in a manner where users select their location, and narrow their search by categories till they find the listing they want. Some how Google is also working as local search directory, when you search Google using geographic modifier or search phrase like "outsource bookkeeping Brisbane" , the map comes up with results specific to that location. You can also take it one step further and search Google Local specifically. Many local web directories provide basic free listing with paid advantage listing option.

It's always better online - 0 views

There is still a major fraction of industry that refuses to accept the full efficiency and economy of the Internet. Sure, they might be using email and Google search, but that's about it. I'd like to create a list that spans various cross-sections of industries that are still missing the big picture. Feel free to chirp in with any other examples.

The Future of Search: Social Relevancy Rank - 0 views

  • Real-time Web search (of streams of activities) is a hot topic right now.
  • Solution 101: Rank by Friends and People You Follow
  • Here is an idea so obvious that it is surprising Twitter has not implemented it already: front-load search results with people you follow.
  • ...10 more annotations...
  • This is not possible on Twitter today, but it already works great on FriendFeed.
  • Small Worlds and Taste Neighbors
  • As a next step, search results could rank people you may not be directly following but who are being followed by people you follow.
  • And now, as always, please tell us what you think? What would you expect from a search engine with Social Relevancy Rank built in?
  • someone who is followed by hundreds of thousands of users is likely more relevant to you than someone you don't know at all.
  • Using number of followers as a weight might be a good way to order the rest of the activity stream.

      ????
  • The Quest for the Perfect Filter
  • Social Relevancy Rank will evolve over time to help us make sense of endless streams of activity. This ranking will have a profound impact on how we tap into our friends' opinions.
  • The Influencers and the Crowd
  •
FriendFeed has recently launched a search feature, and so Facebook search must be coming soon. Real-time Web search (of streams of activities) is a hot topic right now. Everyone, including Google and Microsoft, recognizes the value of using trusted contacts as filters. What was once called social search is now called real-time search, but this time it will really happen. First, it will be applied to streams and then to the Web in general. What we are about to get is a Social Relevancy Rank. Whenever you search streams of activity, the results will be ordered not chronologically but by how relevant each is to you based on your social graph. That is, people who matter more to you will bubble up. How does this work? Well, there will be a formula, just as there is a formula for Page Rank.

Influential Marketing Blog: Newsflash: No One Cares About Your Blog - 0 views

All the companies that get credit today for doing social media well--Zappos, Dell, Comcast--have all become comfortable with letting individuals from their company become the faces for their brand. These are the voices that I often call "accidental spokespeople." Within them is the real secret to using social media to be a brand that actually matters: offering a real human connection.
