Critical Approaches to Gender and 21st Century Pop Music

I found this interesting how Miley Cyrus managed to win the title of the worst celebrity influence in both 2009 and 10, yet in comparison to now, (in my opinion) she was probably a better influence then than what she is now. Though that is another interesting aspect oft his link. Considering the publicity stunts Cyrus has pull so far this year, will she win that title again for 2013? Or will it be the complete opposite? I feel that she deserves the title, but it's likely that she won't get it. Her sudden surge in popularity might actually take her off the 'worst celebrity influence' list completely.

This is an interesting video in which rapper Tyler, the Creator dresses up and acts like a 50 year old middle class white guy, constantly proclaiming his love for golf, and is an amusing take on "whiteness"

Today, Amanda Palmer, will.i.am, Zoe Keating, Imogen Heap, and Scooter Braun(creator of Justin Bieber) with addition to music platforms Spotify, Vevo, Songkick, will be debating if technology has killed the music industry. 

I couldn't find the entire interview with Ellen and Lady Gaga, but I did find the song she played.  I just wanted to see her outfit, from the Gray-Rosendale article we read.  

I think this is interesting, Miley Cyrus has become the butt of many jokes recently however she is now the butt of a joke by Paris Hilton. I'm not sure what you think but this is very scary indeed, very fitting for Halloween!

This is in article regarding Miley Cyrus' recent photograph of herself in a wing. Her long mouse brown hair is reminiscent of her Hannah Montana days. Perhaps Miley herself is tiring of being some one she is not? Or it could be yet another publicity stunt, just as the hype around her begins to die down she releases the photo.

Here is a new interview with Miley Cyrus posted by the NY Daily News. In it, Miley shares information about the "Wrecking Ball" shoot. Interesting read, I'd say; contains details I didn't know about the making of the music video.

I think this article is really interesting but at the same time it makes me view Miley Cyrus is a skeptical light. I feel that she's often contradicting herself, making all her shock and awe tactics seem, to me, to be a very childish and not very well thought out publicity stunt.

An article/interview that explores Lorde as The Next Big Thing. I think it's interesting to see the constant parallels that the industry draws between new and old artists. For me it shows illustrates the culture that we live in and the need for something and something shocking.
