This article states that we must first be able to identify a patient with low health literacy to be able to communicate with them effectivly. This article gives guidance on how to identify a patients literacy level. It also states how to do things that can increase the overall levels of health literacy. It states that even if someone has high literacy levels that doesnt mean that they will always understand all of their health and health care information. Another idea that was brought up in this article is that one must also form a comfortable environment for patients to become more health literate.

The article discusses financial-literacy programs at universities and colleges in the United States. Programs like Texas Tech University's help its students master the basics of budgeting, saving, and not buying what they can't afford. These programs are especially important as colleges grapple with rising costs and an economic downturn in the country. The author states that financial literacy affects student retention, productivity, and mental health, and may also generate good will in a time when colleges are being criticized for repeatedly raising tuition, fees, and housing costs. Web. 8 Nov. 2010. \n\nReporting in the Journal of American College Health, the research team found that about 70 percent of students gained a significant amount of weight between the start of college and the end of sophomore year. One researcher states that these results are not surprising to him because normally eating habits incollege students are not great. He also states that most don't eat five fruits and vegetables per day, and many don't get enough exercise. The average weight gain was nine pounds, but why they gained the weight isn't completely understood. \n

Sutcliffe, Paul A., et al. "Effect of Attentional State on Frequency Discrimination: A Comparison of Children With ADHD On and Off Medication." This is journal article examines the difference between children with ADHD on and off medication. The researchers ran a test that judged the children's auditory awareness. The researchers tested both kids with ADHD and kids without ADHD. The results showed that children with ADHD performed much worse without the stimulant medication than the children without ADHD. This shows that auditory awareness can directly be influenced by the attention status of children who have ADHD.

Yiou, Fan, et al. "Associations between body mass index, weight control concerns and behaviors, and eating disorder symptoms among non-clinical Chineseadolescents." BMC Public Health 10.(2010): 314-325. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 15 Nov. 2010. Although this article's data is taken from China, the data is also relevant here. A study was taken from both men and women and their body mass index. After the study the scientists reviewed that most of the adolescents scored very high in having problems or disorders. I can only conclude that here in the United States that we would have an even bigger problem than China.

This article is about how social economic class is related to a students academic performance. More specifically, this article was about how poverty is related to academic achievement in the United States. The article studied the of socio-economic (SES) status on educational achievement and early literacy. It also looked at programs they have been installed to help low-income families and communities overcome learning problems associated with their economic status.

This article shows certain indications, or in other words tell tale signs that many people who have problems with financial spending hold in common. The article has tables that show results on whether or not students had plans on how to spend their money, if they actually kept track of their money, and why they spent their money. The main point of the article was the difference between compulsive, and pre-determined purchases of college students. I also thought that this article would be good because the field work was done on international students. This shows that financial literacy is just not a problem amongst college students in the states. This problem is occurring all over the world and this article shows that.

Some states are starting to require that a personal finance or independent living classes be taught at the high school level. The only problem with teaching these courses is finding adequate teachers. Most states want teachers to have a business background.

It tells of the importance of being able to obtain, processm and understand basic health information. Many of the healthcare providers out there are nurses, and, according to this article, they can help decrease the amount of patients with low health literacy. This article also states that health literacy can have an impact on an idividuals health status and the cost of health care in general. There is a big need for nurses to educate their patients about their health and health literacy in general.

Brennan, Susan A., Gayle J. Luze, and Carla Peterson. "Parents' Perceptions of Professional Support for the Emergent Literacy of Young Children with Visual Impairments." The survey concentrated on what types of activities parents engaged with their child. The survey found that it was important for parents to read out loud to the children because it helped them understand "book related" concepts. Concepts such as turning the page, reading left to right, and understanding that books relay a message. This article also states that a parents cannot offer the support their child needs without professional help. Often times parents want to read to their child, but find that they don't know how to go about it, or even what books they should read to them. The article lastly states that parents should also learn Braille. This will open up more opportunities and experiences that a child can have. An experience such as having time as a family to learn Braille and make it a more fun and enjoyable experience for the child.

It talks about the different learning behaviors relating to male and females. It states that men enroll in school in order to achieve something, while women enrol for the sake of desire for learning. Men are said to pick up at task and master it until picking up a new one while women work with more than one task at the same time. Men and women have different learning, writing, and reading techniques from one another.\n\n

This article is also a research article about adult literacy. It touches base on gender roles as it applies to literacy. It establishes that the lack of focus on gender roles and literacy effects the success in that area of knowledge. It states that the development between women and men is different pertaining to literacy, menaing it is an unequal development. Lack of attention on this issue and resistence to accept this social role causes problems when learning about writing.

Imagination is based off of real life experiences according to Vygotsky's first law of imagination.

This article talks about the problems that this country faces with low health literacy among their patients. It talks about some of the reasons for people having low health literacy and also when the health literacy problem started to gain the interest of the country. This article states some ways to identify patients that have low health literacy. It also tell you how to talk to a patient with low health literacy to avoid the most confusion.
