A study was performed that evaluated the effects of sending text messages and using the Internet right before bedtime on children. The researchers at the Sleep Disorders Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J found that the use of these technologies right before bed can have negative effects on kids' sleeping patterns. These then impact their daytime functioning and psychological health. This lack of sleep results in poor cognitive functioning and disorders such as ADHD. The amount of texting and online use before bed should be limited and monitored by parents.

This article is about how the media portrays drinking and how advertisements affect teenagers. There are certain tricks and even hidden messages behind the ads. When the ads are exposed to teenagers they think the message is normal and are more likely to go out and drink just the way they see it being done. Alcohol is such a common item to be advertised and adults who know right from wrong take different messages from the ads than children and teenagers.

Parents are encouraged to promote their child's early learning right from the start (infancy). Parents should play with their children at home and at playgrounds. Parents should aslo read their children stories. These ideas for parents come from the government because they feel that parents should do more to help their child's learning.

It was based on schools such as Texas Tech that have actual course at their institution that is based upon financial literacy and the knowledge of spending one's own money. Texas Tech is one of many schools that have a class like this one. The class in itself teaches students proper spending techniques. The purpose of the class is to teach students how to budget money, save when the time is right, and to buy only things or items that they can afford.

EBSCO. Web. 17 Nov. 2010. This article will be fantastic as a counter argument to my paper. Every good paper needs some form of argument against to make the argument for even stronger. The journal is a study based on 79 high school students. These students in years prior had completed a course that dealt with managing their finances. The study showed that these kids were no smarter, or held any knowledge that other students didn't regarding financial literacy and spending. I thought that this journal was great because it showed that it might not even be the education that lead to poor spending. Also the students who took the course even noted that they did not spend their money in the right ways.

This is a overview of a minors rights in different states. It tells the story's of multiple people who have disabilities that are still able to be literate, one story in particular is about Helen Keller. It goes on to tell how certain special needs educational institutions do not teach their students to read. One teacher was quoted saying "I don't have to worry about it [teaching reading]. My student's aren't readers and never will. This article provides a defense to why people with disabilities should not be deprived of the right to be literate.

This article talks about how it is time to expose students to the concepts of law. this will make them more educated on various issues that influence them in their lives. The article addresses the fact that schools are lacking art influences because of the No Child Left Behind Act. It states that this should be changed and proposes the "Critique Method." It emphasizes the benefits of right-brained thinking. The authors relate to Daniel Pink's idea of the Conceptual Age. They discuss how art fosters empathetic thinking that is crucial to the future generation.

The survey concentrated on what types of activities parents engaged with their child. The survey found that it was important for parents to read out loud to the children because it helped them understand "book related" concepts. Concepts such as turning the page, reading left to right, and understanding that books relay a message. This article also states that a parents cannot offer the support their child needs without professional help. Often times parents want to read to their child, but find that they don't know how to go about it, or even what books they should read to them. The article lastly states that parents should also learn Braille. This will open up more opportunities and experiences that a child can have. An experience such as having time as a family to learn Braille and make it a more fun and enjoyable experience for the child.
