Web. 18 Nov. 2010. - This site talks a little about how teaching children with Autism can be different than teaching "regular" children. It touches base on the three basic types of learning. For example, visual learners like reading or seeing a demonstration. Auditory learners learn better from listening to lectures or audio tapes. Lastly, kinesthetic learners learn best from movement, or trying something out physically for themselves. Autistic kids usually focus purely on one of these methods, as opposed to unhandicapped kids, who usually display a mixture of the techniques.

The article also offers suggestions for activities that would possibly interest Autistic children. It touches on all three learning types, as well. An environment that makes the students feel safe will assist in much better results. The site then goes on to list other categories of interest such as curriculum and approaches to take. Lastly, it talks about the importance of teacher commitment and not giving up on the students.

It then goes on to list similar disorders that are under the same "umbrella" as Autism. It lists many concerns that Autistic students have, so that you can relate to them easier. It gives a couple strategies that have proven beneficial. For example, students should take frequent breaks for bathroom, etc. Also, visual schedules for class have been proven to be key. In addition, it touches on the idea of color-coding for visual learners.

This article talks about how the teachers of America want to change the gender gap. Between 1990 and 2007 there has not been much change in the gender gap in math. Teachers have goals of changing this so that both genders are on the same level. There are programs out there that are teaching current and future teachers of how to teach to both genders. Also they are teaching early childhood teachers how to make sure that the gap does not start so early.

Some states are starting to require that a personal finance or independent living classes be taught at the high school level. The only problem with teaching these courses is finding adequate teachers. Most states want teachers to have a business background.

It was based on schools such as Texas Tech that have actual course at their institution that is based upon financial literacy and the knowledge of spending one's own money. Texas Tech is one of many schools that have a class like this one. The class in itself teaches students proper spending techniques. The purpose of the class is to teach students how to budget money, save when the time is right, and to buy only things or items that they can afford.

It talks about a broad range of subjects, from attention levels to the importance of classroom engagement. It shows experiments that people have run in determining learning and teaching methods that are effective. This article is tageted towards english teachers. It notes that the ability to distinguish good news from biased news is critcal for students to do research. She says that some news like in the Onion may look convincing, but it is slanted and biased and not as clear news as the New York Times. She gives advice to tell students how to determine what is fact and was is not when reading and reseraching the news.

Living in a post 9/11 society, it is important to educate in order to correct global misunderstandings about the Islamic religion. The failure to teach Islam as a world religion has resulted in ignorance about the role of this religion in world history. Scholars have criticized that the misunderstandings about Islam, and present global conflicts are due to inaccurate media portrayals and the lack of education within schools. While Islam is a peaceful religion, the media has been shaping a negative stereotype of associating Muslims with violence. This article focuses on this understudied issue within Asia and attempts to incorporate this information to Chinese students in Eastern Asia.

The media images they see make them believe that is who they should be and who they should be around. This is not always the most ideal person for a young child to aspire to be. These images effect children and even-more-so effect children with disabilities who have an even harder time fitting in with other children and accepting themselves. These images show them what they are suppose to be like and who their friends should be and this is why media literacy is so important.

Deborah Hartz is a teacher, who has taught high school English at The Arizona School for the Blind in Tuscan. Hartz uses a variety of technologies to help teach her students how to read. She gives detailed descriptions on the various types of machines and tells the usefulness of each machine. Some of the technology used in the class room include Braille n' Speak, Zoom Text Extra enlargement and speaking dictionaries. Hartz gives suggestions as to classroom design, and having a library in the classroom that also aid in teaching students who are visually impaired. Hartz explains how important technology is when teaching blind students because it motivates them to want to learn to read, edit and write. She says that the invention of more technology has made it easier for people with visual impairments to access Braille books and has made Braille even more popular among students.

One of the techniques used is POVM, which teaches children to maintain a conversation with a conversant. This study also helps improve vocal behavior, and eye contact. This practice has been shown to improve joint attention, self help, academic instruction, communication, and community survival. The use of these videos have also improved social skills in autistic people.

This article deals with the idea of enhancing the ability to learn and comrehend teachers by using technological literacy. It includes teachers' responses on how they feel about technology in the classroom. It makes sense to expose a child to technology at a young age, because studies show that they will then be able to comprehend as opposed to later in life. However, not everyone agrees with this statement and the idea that technology should be able to be used in the classroom.
