Chien-Wen, Lai. "How Financial Attitudes and Practices Influence the Impulsive Buying Behavior of College and University Students." Social Behavior & Personality: An International Journal 38.3 (2010): 373-380. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 18 Nov. 2010. This article shows certain indications, or in other words tell tale signs that many people who have problems with financial spending hold in common. The article has tables that show results on whether or not students had plans on how to spend their money, if they actually kept track of their money, and why they spent their money. The main point of the article was the difference between compulsive, and pre-determined purchases of college students. I also thought that this article would be good because the field work was done on international students. This shows that financial literacy is just not a problem amongst college students in the states. This problem is occurring all over the world and this article shows that.

  •
The article discusses financial-literacy programs at universities and colleges in the United States. Programs like Texas Tech University's help its students master the basics of budgeting, saving, and not buying what they can't afford. These programs are especially important as colleges grapple with rising costs and an economic downturn in the country. The author states that financial literacy affects student retention, productivity, and mental health, and may also generate good will in a time when colleges are being criticized for repeatedly raising tuition, fees, and housing costs. (From the EBSCO abstract.)\n

The freshman weight gain phenomenon revisited - 1 views

  •
Earlier studies associated the first year of college with a dramatic increase in body weight, termed the "freshman 15". However, recent studies showed that weight gain might be smaller. The purpose of this review was to evaluate the extent of observed weight/body composition changes, including factors associated with them, among students entering university. Searches were conducted for studies examining weight/body composition changes during freshman semesters. Most studies were not comprehensive in assessing numerous potential causative factors for weight gain. Methods for assessing diet, physical activity, and behavioral factors varied among studies. Weight changes were often not quantified by measures of body composition (lean/fat) to ascertain that changes were limited just to gains in fat mass. Overall, weight changes ranged from 0.7-3.1 kg, but among individuals who gained weight, the range was narrower, 3.1-3.4 kg. There may be specific groups of students with a greater predisposition for weight gain and future research should focus on identifying those groups.

Why Everyone Benefits From Including Students With Autism in Literacy Classrooms. - 1 views

Chandler-Olcott, Kelly, and Paula Kluth. "Why Everyone Benefits From Including Students With Autism in Literacy Classrooms." Reading Teacher 62.7 (2009): 548-557. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 18 Nov. 2010. The autism growth rate in normal classrooms has gone up about 5%, so teachers are now more straightforward with their literacy teachings. For autistic kids to develop literacy skills, they should be placed in classrooms with people of the same age. Studies have shown that students with autism who had been placed in a normal classroom at a young age have better communication and interaction skills with others. Having autistic children in normal classrooms has also pushed teachers into further analyzing their students, and pay more attention to assignments.

Worlds have collided and modes have merged: classroom evidence of changed literacy prac... - 1 views

Walsh, Maureen. "Worlds have collided and modes have merged: classroom evidence of changed literacy practices." Literacy, Volume 42, issue 2 (July 2008), p. 101-108. OhioLINK. Web. 20 November 2010 Debates continue in public and in educational policy forums about the 'basics' of literacy while many have not recognised that these basics may never be the same again. Rapid changes in digital communication provide facilities for reading and writing to be combined with various and often quite complex aspects of music, photography and film. At the same time, educational policy and national testing requirements are still principally focused on the reading and writing of print-based texts. This paper examines evidence from classroom research to analyse the nature of multimodal literacy, the literacy that is needed in contemporary times for reading, viewing, responding to and producing multimodal and digital texts. Examples of students' engagement in multimodal literacy are presented to demonstrate how classroom literacy practices can incorporate the practices of talking, listening, reading and writing together with processing the modes of written text, image, sound and movement in print and digital texts.

The three teachers discovered this fact by reviewing a number of papers and answering three review questions provided for each. The results provide awareness for readers in hopes to reverse this trend\n\n

This article will be very strong for my paper. For the purpose of my research paper, I would like to focus on young adults. This journal article is directed specifically towards that. In the journal, there was a study done on high school and college level aged students who were asked questions regarding inflation, interest rates, and risk diversification. The best part of this article is that it show that students who are from a solid background, or have been to college, know much more about financiall literacy and how their money will spent in the future. I can use much of this information and studies in my paper.
