Poor eating habits are an important public health issue that has large health and economic implications. Many food preferences are established early, but because people make more and more independent eating decisions as they move through adolescence, the transition to independent living during the university days is an important event. Numerous studies have shown that college students often have poor eating habits. Students tend to eat fewer fruits and vegetables on a daily basis\nand report high intake of high-fat, high-calorie foods.To study the phenomenon of food selection, the heath belief model was applied to predict the likelihood of healthy eating among university students. This source provides explanations for why there are differences in literacy for genders. It gives five 5 reasons as to why these differences occur. These reasons are the following: evaluative bias, home socialization, role and societal expectations, male psychology, and equity policy. These five reasons explain why males begin ahead of females, but by the time school ended the gaps closed and women out performed males.

This article talks about how we should help the elderly learn how to use computers, and instruct them on the wonders of technology. This is more of a pro-help article, where some of the other articles are just condeming the fact that the senior citizens have trouble with computers, and they offer no way to help this issue. Overall this is a positive article which offers insight to the issue of senior citizens and their troubles with computers.

This article discusses the results found in a study of people about how they feel about their self images. It shows that there is a difference between how the subjects reacted and they are measured with explicit reactions and implicit reactions. Both of these styles of reactions show similar results as previous studies showing that the level of beauty stressed in media caused children, especially girls to have a lower self esteem and makes them have more emphasis of their own personal appearance.

A selection of students were chosen to be a test group. The study was researched to determine if technology has an effect on kids and their learning abilities.

Bottorf examines the results and how they prove and disprove that the two areas are related.

Aries, Elizabeth, et al. "A Comparison of Athletes and Non-Athletes at Highly Selective Colleges: Academic Performance and Personal Development." Research in Higher Education 45.6 (2004), 577-602. This study focused on student athletes for four years at selective liberal arts and Ivy League schools. It said students spending ten or more hours had less academic credentials than non-athletes, but were not lower than expected for an athlete. It talks about engagement in the community, sociability, extroversion, drinking, and academic performance of both athletes and non-athletes.

The main focus of this article is how important communication is when it comes to literacy and physical education. It explains that students should learn physical literacy and fully understand it. Another topic touched on is how speaking and presentation skills are important when it comes to literacy and physical activity. Without proper communication and presentation skills, the learning process can often be effected negatively.

Salmon, Jo, et al. "Leisure-Time, Occupational, and Household Physical Activity among Professional, Skilled, and Less-Skilled Workers and Homemakers." Preventive Medicine 30.3 (2000), 191-199. This study examines the difference in the physical activity between people of different skill levels in certain jobs. Physical activity in this study could be doing activities at home, at a gym, or possibly for your job. The study concluded that no association could be made between occupation and physical activity for men, but it could for women.

Article talks about a 12 week study with students rangeing from 16-17 yrs old. It goes on to talk about the effects that music had on them and the comments made from the psychologist and educational researchers. Talks about how music therapy works, informs the therapeutic benifits, and talks about therapy within a school setting.

This article acknowledges the growing prevalence of instant messaging and text messaging in today's society. It reveals the two different beliefs of how these new forms of communication affect writing. One belief is that it has caused a "breakdown of the English language" from the use of abbreviations and lack of punctuation. The second is that students have been encouraged to write more and that it is helping them practice their literacy skills. These technologies can be used as learning tools, but the problem is that students have a hard time distinguishing when to use informal and when to use formal writing. The challenge now is how to teach children how to use this new tool for literacy.

The author is inferring that black and white athletes are treated much differently, in some situations at least. Faculty and students are now discussing how to fix this problem in order to improve communication and the experience of college athletics.

This article discusses how hospitals are trying to put programs together to help those children that are long term patience with the learning process. Many children are posing disabilities that need to be confronted before they are put back into a regular classroom. The article goes on to talk about that teachers need to empower parents and hospital staffs to come up with innovative ways to teacher children the curriculum that they should be learning. Children with learning disabilities are popping up more frequently and we need to take action as a society to address those issues at an early age.

Now, many kids with this disablilty are able to get in education, which led to a study. This is a study done on the development of people with Down Syndrome over a period of time. The article shares information on longituninal study that tested the development of reading, language, and memory skills. The article concludes that reading has no effect on the enhancement of language and memory development in children with Down Syndrome.
