As the internet has risen to become such a vital source of information, the question regarding the authenticity and the education on how to find that information has come into question. The article then goes into more detail on the background and whats being done to improve the accuracy of information found on the internet.

It tells of the importance of being able to obtain, processm and understand basic health information. Many of the healthcare providers out there are nurses, and, according to this article, they can help decrease the amount of patients with low health literacy. This article also states that health literacy can have an impact on an idividuals health status and the cost of health care in general. There is a big need for nurses to educate their patients about their health and health literacy in general.

There has been an overwhelming increase in the use of text messaging, and in some cases young adults use messages more than talking. Two studies were performed trying to determine if there is a relationship, because not much research has been completed. On top of that most of the research has yielded different results. These two studies did not see a connection between the use of textisms and formal writing, but it did between the use of textisms and informal writing.

David Hanson is a professor in the Sociology Department at State University of New York and created this site in 1997. He has been making new articles as well as updating his already existing articles to be current. The URL given here was the most helpful part about this site, it give links to numerous hyperlinks offering much information on a various topics from pro alcohol advertising to the con argument.

William Badke. "International students: information literacy or academic literacy?" Academic Exchange Quarterly, Dec 22, 2002. Web. This article looks at how international students may not actually be getting the education they may have thought they are bargaining for. He says yes, they receive an English education which may have been tougher to come by in their country, thereby becoming more literate, while in effect they do not actually gain any valuable academic literacy, comparable to what may have been available in their country of origin. He states that in effect these students are caught between an educational gap in which they face more language challenges than they do actual academic challenges, and as such spend most of their education just trying to get over the language barrier hump, while sacrificing academia knowledge they would have otherwise been gaining.

In this, Schneider explores how the internet is affecting gifted students in how they find resources that their libraries just can't possibly contain. Within the last decade the internet has become a major tool and curriculum are being changed to go along with it. The ones that are excelling are the students that can process large amounts of information quickly and relatively accurately.

This article focuses on how ICT's (information and communication technologies) have transformed reading, writing, and education. Written communication has become less formal and the syntax and layout has changed. However, technology has enabled students to engage in "creative and collaborative communication." It has also enabled the practice of writing through everyday activities such as texting. The Internet, especially, and cell phones can be used to facilitate learning when incorporated creatively into the classroom.

Burns, Robert D., et al. "Intercollegiate student athlete use of nutritional supplements and the role of athletic trainers and dietitians in nutrition counseling." The survey examined the athletes supplement use, perceived efficacy of supplements, availability and use of nutrition services, and perceived nutrition knowledge of athletic trainers. The research was conducted on 236 athletes. The results showed that 88% used one or more nutritional supplements. In addition the survey all showed that majority of the athletes had nutritional class, brochures, and individual counseling available. Furthermore, 39.8% of the athletes were offered athletic trainers, 23.7% of athletes were offered strength and conditioning coaches, and 14.4% were offered dietitians . Overall this study showed that athletes are surrounded by a healthy and nutritional lifestyle.

It mentions literacy in regards to working as an athletic trainer and effectively communicating with athletes. It shows that literacy is essential in the sporting world. Involvement in athletic training should come with great physical literacy skills.

This article gives a lot of information about college students and the risks that they are taking when they come to a new environment while being on their own. Several tests were taken to determine the difference between males and females and their behaviors towards drinking, eating, and exercising. It does a really good job on separating the genders and showing that the male and female lifestyle drastically changes when they come to college. It shows statistics on how much the cost of a student would spend depending on their physical activity as well. Overall, college can have an extreme impact on a students' life.

It then goes in to how believable the students thought the different sources were.

It shows that it is not always effective, and goes into detail about why it might not be. Techonological advances have changed the way we learn in many ways; however, this does not necessarily mean that it has been chagned in positive ways. The common misconception is that anything new and improved is always beneficial; this article shows that it's not always the case.

It has a study that says that the outlooks of computers from the perspective of the elderly aren't very different at all from the perspective of a young adult. It shines a new light on the age old thought that senior citizens do not like computers, they may just not know how to use them.
