Tech Tools for Teachers WEEKLY EMAIL NEWSLETTER I am currently collaborating with a fellow teacher, Simon Collier on a free weekly e-mail that we will distribute throughout the year. Each week the email features a useful online tool or website for teachers to use in their classroom. The purpose of this email is to publicise and promote the use of ICT tools and web links to teachers who are not regularly sourcing the available information on the net. This in turn, hopefully increasing the use of the wonderful education tools available online. The email is suitable for both primary and secondary teachers and we provide practical examples of how the tool or website could be integrated into the classroom curriculum.

Ms. Rosalia, 54, is part of a growing cadre of 21st-century multimedia specialists who help guide students through the digital ocean of information that confronts them on a daily basis. These new librarians believe that literacy includes, but also exceeds, books.
-
“The days of just reshelving a book are over,” said Ms. Rosalia, who came to P.S. 225 nearly six years ago after graduating at the top of her class at the Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. “Now it is the information age, and that technology has brought out a whole new generation of practices.”

Backchanneling in Middle School Social Studies - 0 views

One of the eighth grade social studies teachers at my middle school decided to try and engage his students even more during a classroom video by incorporating the backchanneling tool, TodaysMeet
-
This was an awesome first experience with backchanneling in our middle school. In the past, when teachers used a long video (more than a few minutes in length) with students, one could easily observe students "tuning out" the video, trying hard to keep their eyes open, and generally getting *nothing* out of the experience. So not true with this experience!

How to: Track a conversation in Twitter | Journalism.co.uk Editors' Blog - 0 views
-
Twitter is increasingly being used by journalists to make contacts and track news events, but the Twitter user-interface (UI) itself is pretty limited making it difficult to track conversations. Fortunately its open API structure and the ability to subscribe to various types of RSS feeds from Twitter means there are a number of ways to track a ‘buzz’ around an event or specific conversations.
