10 ways to save your smartphone battery

"Some mandatory apps that your students might not life without, in your math classroom. I will only give you the top 5 to save room and not overwhelm your iPads when you try to download them all. I only purchase apps that are free, because educators are strapped for cash as it is."

"If you've ever run into a .zip file on an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad you will probably have discovered it's a bit of a dead-end initially, because by default there isn't much you can do with zips or any other archive format. That doesn't mean you can't open ZIP files though, and in fact these archives can be viewed, unzipped, and opened in iOS with relative ease, but you will need to download a free third party app before you'll have the function included on your device. This will allow you view all of the contents of any zip file quickly, and also decompress the entire archive, or just extract a single file from a larger archive, providing quick access to the zip contents which can be saved locally or opened in another application of choice."

"Passing out iPads to students on the first day of school was like celebrating Christmas (or in this case Hanukkah) with thirty antsy kids sitting around the tree, attempting to hide their impatience. Once the iPads had been handed out, students were instantly excited, engaged and enchanted with the new learning device in their hands. At first, everyone was confused about where to find work, where to save and store their products - and which app to use for what purpose. As with every pilot, these issues worked themselves out and soon classes were running pretty smoothly. Once they all learned what a "hard reset" was we were on our way. "Infuse Learning is a new assessment service which works very much like Socrative. It allows teachers to set up quizzes which the students can answer via any device which can connect to the internet - whether that's a laptop, netbook, iPod, iPad or other tablet device. Like Socrative it is a fantastic addition to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classroom. As well as the quizzes you can set up and save, you can also add Quick Assessment questions which can be given to the class at any point in a lesson. These can be quick True/False, Multiple Choice and Numeric answers and Likert Scale answers. There's also the option for students to draw a picture as their response to a question, which is an interesting addition which would work well for students with touchscreen and tablet devices."

"Book Creator for the iPad by Red Jumper Studio is an app that allows users to create ebooks on your iPad with ease. It provides features that allow anyone to easily create ebooks from users with epub experience to students who are just starting out using mobile device to create a story. The simple interface allows the user to add text and photos with ease. Book Creator also provides the option to add background music as well as audio hotspots to add speech to support the text. It also allows user to add video clips. Books created in Book Creator are easily shared with friends via email, dropbox, or even save to iTunes. "

"I have found an app called Record of Reading. It is a great app…not just because it was created by my alma mater, Clemson University…but because it is an electronic means of assessing reading behaviors. You don't need a calculator as it has embedded formulas for accuracy and self corrections. The app even records the child reading while the teacher simultaneously takes the record. When replaying the record, the oral reading and the record are synced. The record can be saved or emailed. There is also a user manual if needed. You are able to type or write directly in the app and it doesn't have to be opened in a PDF annotator. Best of all, it is FREE!."

"One of the most underused features of the iPad is the ability to both read and annotate e-books and PDF documents. This is a really useful tool for teachers and students who are using their iPad for research. These three apps allow you to use your iPad to highlight digital documents and hopefully save some unnecessary storage and printing."
