"This year at ISTE in Atlanta, I shared with teachers one easy way to add QR codes to three-dimensional shapes.   The app Foldify lets users create a template for a variety of three-dimensional shapes.  Instead of drawing a picture or adding family photos, I used a QR code generator on my iPad, saved the pictures to the Camera Roll, and placed them on my Folidify creation.  They are easy to assemble after your print them out and great for having students roll a dice for a mystery writing prompt or math problem."

"YouTube is a terrific resource for teachers looking for content to share with students. There are tons of videos that will reinforce key concepts and help kids get excited about what they are learning in the classroom. Since there are plenty of videos on YouTube that are not kid-friendly, YoouKids has developed an iPad app that helps teachers organize which clips they want to share with their students."

"Primary source documents, especially photographs, are powerful tools for grabbing the attention of students.  Sometimes it's challenging to find the right picture to connect to a historical fiction literature circle or to support a Social Studies lesson.  I'm a big fan of Google Image searches but another option is to check out the LIFE photo archive hosted by Google.  You can search over a hundred years worth of photographs by typing in a keyword or choosing a specific event or time period.  This is a terrific resource for teachers who work with students of any age!"

"If you're look for a way to support your students as writers or simply would like an extra tool to check your own work, you'll want to check out Grammarly.  It is an automated grammar checker web application that is already used by over four million people around the world.  Grammarly helps users detect grammar errors in their writing, detect plagiarism, and use better vocabulary words."

"Last year I shared a fantastic free app DIY Sun Science that gives students access to lots of content to explore.  The Lawrence Hall of Science has a new app for iPads called DIY Human Body that includes informational text, activities and videos."

"Read alouds are such an important part of an elementary classroom's literacy block. If you're looking for a new way to share stories with your students, or simply want a resource to share with parents, you have to check out Storyline Online. Presented by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, this site has videos of well-known actors reading your favorite picture books aloud."

"If you're familiar with multi-level books, you'll want to check out Books That Grow. Books That Grow is a free digital reading platform with a library of books that range from myths and folktales, to primary source documents and informational texts. Whether you want to teach the Greek myth "Arachne" or Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter From a Birmingham Jail," Books That Grow has you covered."

"Collecting data on student progress is an important part of making decisions about intervention and how to best support the children in our classrooms.  Running Record Calculator is an app for iOS devices that helps teachers who are administering this type of assessment.  It records students as they read a passage and gives you a quick way to keep track of self-corrections and errors.  After the recording finishes you can enter the word count from the passage to calculate words per minute."

"The American Red Cross has a handful of apps on weather safety for iPad users looking to plan and prepare for natural disasters.  They also have a great iPad app to help students of any age stay safe.  With First Aid children can learn about different ways to act in situations that require first aid.  There are photographs, informational text, and diagrams to help students understand the best steps to take in an emergency.  First Aid includes extra features including the ability to switch from English to Spanish and a quiz to check for understanding."

"Seedling Comic Studio is an iPad app for making comic books.  By combining photographs with backgrounds and stickers, students can tell their own stories.  Graphic novels and comic books are fantastic ways to get students excited about reading.  If you're looking to keep students interested in the writing process, a comic book can be a great final project for a narrative, opinion, or informational piece of writing."

"Last year I had the chance to try out a 3D printer for the first time. I chronicled my journey in a few posts including how easy it was to get started and how I was able to print a virtual reality headset. The team at MakerBot has just announced the brand new MakerBot Educators program. This program is designed to bring together teachers who are passionate about using 3D printing in their classrooms. The goal is to create a community of educators who share their experiences and best practices using innovative technology with students. MakerBot has already set up Thingiverse Education as a collection of 3D printing lesson plans for teachers. So it is no surprise that they've created a space for educators from lots of different backgrounds to share the way 3D printing has changed the way teaching and learning happens in their school. I love when companies create special spaces for educators to show off their accomplishments and share their expertise with other teachers."
