    Welcome to diigo! Click on the link "using diigo in ETAP640" to view this topic. The ETAP640 group is a group for students in UAlbany online Intro to Online Teaching course.

    We will use diigo to collect and share references and resources used in this course. You will be required to "bookmark" and "highlight" web references, resources and citations to support or illustrate your thoughts, comments, posts, and assertions in all course discussions, assignments, blog posts, etc.

    You will create annotations using the features of diigo to further clarify your use of the reference or resource. By using diigo to document all the references that come up during the course, we will have a fantastic easily accessible common annotated bibliography of resources that you will be able to keep, use, and continue to contribute to beyond the end of the term.

    I have already bookmarked a lot of resources for you here and you will note that students from previous semesters continue to be members of this group and their links have persisted in the group beyond the end of the term for your benefit. Anything you contribute to this group will become part of the group library and as well as a link in your personal library of bookmarks.

    For more information on how to use diigo, sort the bookmarks in this group library on the diigo tag.

    I would like your input on how we use diigo in this course. If you have any comments, or suggestions, please let me know. If you have a question, you can post a reply to this topic below, or feel free to start a new topic.

    To get the most out of this tool, you should also look at who i follow and the groups i belong to. You can also search for groups and people that share your interests and join and follow them.

    hi there! in module 4 you will be looking for online resources to incorporate into your online course. As part of the assignment for module 4 you will need to bookmark and annotate all resources you find and any that you decide to use in your course detailing what you you like or don't like about it, how you will use it and why you decide to use it or not. There are several examples from past students. Please tag the resources for this assignment with the tag "Module 4 assignment" so i can find them easily.

    I am using this topic to describe this assignment so that you can see and experience this discussion feature in diigo, and so that you can experience the other features and functionalities is this incredibly powerful tool.

How we will use diigo and this group. - 39 views

diigo use required

    Hello everyone!

    I have set this group up for us to use throughout the course as our shared references area.

    Think of diigo and this group as our own course 'library' of references based not only on course content areas, and topics of interest within content areas, but also materials related to pedagogy in general, and even any of your own discipline-specific resources that you may want to bring into the course as reference. Also, any resources specifically dedicated to the knowledge and use of incorporating technology into any classroom would be of interest to us all i think.

    Very specifically, you are required to bookmark, highlight, and comment on any links, references, and citations that you use in any course discussions, assignments, blog posts, etc.). This semester, in addition to bookmarking any references, my expectation is that we will make greater use of the highlighting, and commenting features in this tool.

    By using diigo to document all the references that come up during the course we will have a fantastic easily accessible common annotated bibliography of resources that you will be able to keep, use, and continue to contribute to beyond the end of the term.

    I have bookmarked several resources here for you and this course, and evaluated and tested the use of diigo with the students in this course last summer. So, you will note that their links remain in the group, and you will also see that they continue to be members of the group.

    I would like your input on how we use diigo in this course. If you have any comments, or suggestions, please let me know.

    Part of learning to use this tool involves understanding how to tag.

    I would like you to tag anything you bookmark in diigo, and consider the following from http://www.dlib.org/dlib/january06/guy/01guy.html :
    "To succeed, attempting to improve tag literacy (or tag etiquette) in the folksonomy world involves two processes. Firstly, the community needs to be ready to set rules and agree upon a set of standards for tags. Secondly, users need to be made aware of and agree to follow these rules.

    At the moment, although there are no standard guidelines on good tag selection practices, those in the folksonomy community have offered many ideas. Ways in which tags may be improved are presented frequently on blogs and folksonomy discussion sites. In his article on tag literacy, Ulises Ali Mejias suggests a number of tag selection "best practices" [14]. These include:

    * using plurals rather than singulars
    * using lower case,
    * grouping words using an underscore,
    * following tag conventions started by others and
    * adding synonyms."

    Any questions or comments on this?
    Suggestions for common group tags?

    I suggest the following tags:
    online_pedagogy
    blended_learning
    effective_online_practices

    you?
