Information maps - 0 views

  • In doing a little research, I came across a book by Terry Anderson called, "Theory and Practice in Online Learning." He has some suggestions for giving students an outline, or what he calls an information map, at the beginning of a lesson or module. He talks about the importance of how content is presented initially, and how that affects memory.

ETAP640amp2011: Peer evaluation- does it tell the whole story? - 0 views

  • Michael Sweet (1999), “The real value of the process [student evaluation] lies in the rationale behind the number.”

Just a few sentences elaborating on what Michael Sweet's research suggested would have helped support your assertion. Not every post can be researched for hours, but at the very least, my initial post will have many hours of research behind it. BTW, it took me several weeks to realize this; prior to that, I was getting very low scores as well. It's a learning process.

One of our colleagues in this program, Rebecca Grodner, is an English teacher at this school. I was fascinated when she mentioned that the school's philosophy was to reframe failure as iteration. I have made that my personal instructional mantra. She developed the Design Inquiry Cycle and shared this tool for inquiry-based learning in the UAlbany Knilt Wiki. This is the link, http://tccl.rit.albany.edu/knilt/index.php/Lesson_3:_The_Design_Inquiry_Cycle. I plan on using and adaptation of this model in my course's writing module.

Thank you - a funny thing happened with this. I was working with Bill on something and mentioned I use this in my training. He said he had no copy of it and asked me to forward. I had scraped it off the old SLN site and made a pdf of it for my faculty to use offline. So it is good to see there is a new source for this I can link to in my training. They do love this!
