This is a great summary of what my course will teach. I want to provide this interactive video in my course, not sure if it will be in within the modules or at the end. Any thought?

I don't know how to advise you on this, but I am glad you found the resource and are thinking about how and when to incorporate it into your course.

I like the the video reads to the students therefore letting my students hear and read it themselves.

Samantha- This is a great find. I like that it is clear without being in your face and also interactive!

Yet another great source of unbranded, generic, and high quality "how to" videos that I can mine for my course.

This is great Anne. Where did you find these resources Merlot or one of the others? How will you incorporate this video into your online course?
    • Anne Deutsch

Hi Diana - LION is a bit like Merlot for librarians but more limited in scope as it's only videos. The quality is high and videos don't have any branding so that they can be utilized by any library.

INTIME - Integrating New Technologies into the Methods of Education - 2 views

I added the free version of RealTime through clicking on site link on one of the videos and the videos play successfully. Although Mozilla FF is not on the list of supported browsers, I was able to get MozFF to recognize the Real Time plug-in after I installed it on my hard drive.

Perhaps there are activities that can be adapted to online course environment? Click on "Go to Material", above, scroll down and click on "Database development" and select "by grade level" or "by content"
  • INTIME provides online video vignettes of PreK-12 teachers from various grades and subjects showing how they integrate technology into their classrooms using numerous teaching strategies. INTIME is the result of a PT3 program (Preparing Tomorrow?s Teachers to Use Technology). INTIME resources are useful for (1) teacher educators creating case studies; (2) pre-service teachers learning about effective pedagogical techniques; (3) in-service teachers searching for ideas and independent professional development; (4) professional developers seeking resources to demonstrate good teaching and technology integration, and (5) administrators developing teacher quality initiatives and mentoring programs.

I am considering whether to add the entire resource or just a few videos with a "for more of this ..." to my module on 21st Century Learning. What really excites me about this resource is the implications for case studies in methods courses in the B-6 program ... can even be shared with Secondary Ed and TESOL. You may want to share this with your grade level, Building Leadership Team, or your PD person. A GREAT free resource for meaningful, asynchronous tech integration training.

I actually think that this video is a bit too long - but it's really fun and engaging so hopefully students will stick with it.

I will need to contact the creators to ask for permission to use this resource. I'll go ahead and look for an alternate resource just in case.

This resource is great because almost all students need to learn about search strategy but they tend to find the concepts BORING. This video is really engaging and fun. It pulls the viewer in from the very beginning.

This reminds me of the videos done with avatars, except I like it better because it is easier to relate to!

Ha! I liked the video. I can relate to Ted. Very cute resource and appropriate for students. I don't think it was too long. Maybe the kids could recreate the video.

One True Media - slideshows, free photo sharing, facebook video, slide shows, Facebook ... - 1 views

  •
Love this! I have tried it out. There are some limitations, but what do you expect for free?! Gives a much, much better deal than Animoto (less than a minute!). The free version provides 100MB of space, but you can't add captions, only music. There is a way around this, though. Students can use Audacity to record and edit their audio, and then import into OneTrueMedia. This solves the problem of OneTrueMedia not having multi-track facilities to record narration and music. Then, just use OneTrueMedia's photo and video capacities. Right now, I will look around for something which allows inserting captions. For the time being, OneTrueMedia is superb.

I will use this video in my course as an additional resource for student choice viewing. One of my modules is on contexts of literacy learning and this video is a brief glimpse of an actual classroom Reading Workshop in progress. In this module, students will be given a set of online resources to view in addition to the texts for the module. Students will choose which to view and will include these viewings in their discussion of module content. (Diane)

Jing, screenshot and screencast software from TechSmith - 1 views

For the Moduel 4 assignment I explored and practiced using Jing. I know Alex has used it many times in our course. I will use it in the beginning of my course to help student get familiar with blackboard. Many of my students in previous semesters are unfamilar with blackboard. Having a screencast video can help them to feel comfortable with blackboard and help to resolve many questions that students will have right from the beginning.
  • Take Screenshots: Capture an image of what you see on your computer screen Record Screencasts: Record up to 5 minutes of onscreen video
  • Jing eliminates a lot of phone and email time

In previous semester I received several emails at the beginning of the course about how to use the online discussion boards, how to upload files, how to download article etc. Having a video screencast can allow students to watch step by step how to do all of these thing.
