I started using queri.ac not so long ago, was a yubnub.org fan, and still am a BIG fan, but the fact that all the commands you create must be public and that you can't delete them makes me very prudent. With queri.ac I can create as many as I want and keep them private (eg.: in case I've made a stupid mistake) PS: I still use yubnub though queriac (eg: like this one tr2 =) ... because yubnub is YUBNUB! The 1st and copied

Sherman Dorn: Social annotation and the marketplace of ideas - 0 views

  • I am experimenting this semester with using Diigo to show students in one course my annotations on Supreme Court desegregation opinions. I've been able to provide translations of legal terms (certiorari, de jure, de facto, etc.), tell students where they can skip (e.g., issues of standing, which are tangential to the topics at hand for the course), what passages to read in depth, and some questions to think about specific passages.
  • There are some obvious possibilities that appeal to me to provide access to reading but some possibility for revenues where appropriate, such as books that are free online but that carry a Creative Commons license requiring a "binding license" fee, so anyone can read a book but where publishers or copy shops need to pay to distribute bound copies. This idea adds to that imaginary repertoire.

Bib 2.0: Before Blogs and Wikis: Three Tools to Enhance Collaboration - 0 views

  • Diigo: Once they start their web-related search, Diigo, an add-on extension for Firefox and Internet Explorer, allows students to highlight text and post sticky-notes directly onto webpages, then share their comments within the group. Others can add their own comments to the note. Selected text is archived to a "my bookmarks" page, along with the comments and a copy of the website. Students can collaborate within the bookmarks site or on the individual websites. Diigo supports RSS feeds, allowing teachers to follow student progress. The more I use this tool, the more I'm convinced it ought to be integral to every research project. It allows students to actively connect with the information they're reading--to question, annotate and infer. All in collaboration with their group. How amazing is that???

  • Diigois first and foremost a bookmarking service but one with more than one twists. Not only can you bookmark pages, sections but you can add private or public annotations (on top of the highlighted copied content) and add sticky notes too. You can export your bookmarks, import from your browser or deli.icio.us (I wish there were more options here) but Diigo has yet to offer an optml import option. You can also subscribe to other members feeds or specific tags. Recently they’ve added this blogging feature. I appreciate remote blogging. It saves times and you can update more frequently.

Poe's Unconscious: Research Moves Toward Electronic Annotated Bibliography - 0 views

  • Diigo, which is my favorite and preferred method to store my notes and sources for research. Why would someone use an old-fashioned method of index cards or copy/pasting with a word processor articles and type notes, when all this can be done through Diigo. It’s also free, and I highly recommend it.

    TwinPage Wikiannotation CommunityWiki READONLY linkcorrection
    Dear Diigos,
I leave here a copy of my wiki contribution, before the annotated page was made READONLY.
Before the page was made READONLY, it allowed me the quoted entry below.

Now I wanted to correct the link below from

    MeatballWiki ( pointing erroniously to http://www.usemod.com/cgi-bin/mb.pl?WikiLifeCycle )
    to
MeatballWiki ( pointing now correctly to http://www.usemod.com/cgi-bin/mb.pl?WikiNode )

Unfortunately this Wiki page switched from READ and WRITE to READONLY, so that the author couldn't correct his contribution.

What a blessing, that there is this social annotation service Diigo. I wish, all the world would use it. It is a great help for democratic open and free expression and initiatives.
The value of social annotation is indispensible.
    Quote of my wiki contribution:
My suggestion is to try to establish links by userdefined TwinPages. These links are usually at the bottom of the page, but it might be a good alternative to have them at some other visible place, e.g at the top of RecentChanges, if the resp. wiki allows users to edit the top lines. If somebody objects against a link s/he may delete it with or without an argument. If there are enough supporters for establishing a TwinPage relation between the strategi

Making the switch « Madscientist's Log - 0 views

  • With the use of a tool such as webslides, students could then view the web site with the article or link to the primary source of the research. The students could view the websites with annotations by the teachers to support the students’ current level of understanding of the material or add additional information or questions to enhance the instruction. Students could then work in their groups to discuss their findings to their peers. This would allow students to come to their own conclusions from the information that they are presented. The assessment could be the presentation of their findings and conclusions via a posting to the class website or some other tool that would allow them to present what new ideas they synthesized and not a high tech presentation with little to no substance. Students would work in the same manner that other scientists around the world are by looking at the new data from research. The article was posted on the 20th of this month, two days ago, and students could be researching about the discovery tomorrow the 23rd. This changing of ideas also illustrates to students the way in which scientific knowledge changes and gets refined in light of new information from researchers. So could this lesson be taught without computer technology? Absolutely but technology allows the instruction to be much more fluid and connected. The teacher could run off all the articles, write on them and make copies for the class, but the exchange of information would likely not be as fluid.

In this example, a simple highlight is copied to a group — and changes from yellow to pink — when I stick this note and address it to a group.
