The tag "disruptaste12" returns no bookmarks when searched via diigo.com/tag/disruptaste12, but searching my own library finds the bookmarks. Any ideas why the tag does not work in global searches?
We have some algorithm to pick out some tags as global tags.Global tag is more convenient and more efficient. To avoid spam,we do not publish this algorithm.
I probably should have used the term "public" instead of "global." The problem is this: A search for my bookmarks using the public tag "disruptaste12" returns no bookmarks when searched via diigo.com/tag/disruptaste12, but searching my own library (http://www.diigo.com/user/skipvia/disruptaste12) finds the bookmarks. Why doesn't the public tag return any results?
Global tag or public tag, these tags you mentioned above are tags can be used for searching in community library. Those tags are selected from public tags of all users. Not every public tag can be global tag. Only tags meet specific algorithm stand out as global tags.So that accounts for why "disruptaste12" can not be searched via diigo.com/tag/disruptaste12.
Isn't "disruptaste12" a public tag like any other tag? Why does a typical search for a public tag not return any results in this case? It doesn't seem like a special case of any kind. If I tag something with "education" I can find my tagged bookmarks with it. Why not with "disruptaste12"?
"disruptaste12" doesn't meet the standard/algorithm of community/global tag. Meanwhile "education" does. As you know, education is used by more people and more efficient.
Let me explain my use case. OUTSIDE of groups, I want faculty from various universities (unknown, in some cases) to be able to network around bookmarks (find each other and learn from each other) because they are all participating in concurrent and similar new media courses. We all know to use the tag, nmfs_s12. We need to be able to find ALL global, public, (whatever you want to call them) bookmarks with this tag. None are found when there is a community search. This means even those on my own campus cannot find the bookmarks. Now this explains why I thought no one was using Diigo at the other locations. And I'll never know who is...
It seems like Delicious too no longer indexes all tags... so sad. I can't even return there. We used to do some really good collaborative interaction on Delicious. What do I tell my faculty who want to use this in their classroom? Groups are the only option?
