How to Be a Better Online Teacher - The Chronicle of Higher Education - 0 views

  •
hether you've taught online a lot or a little, chances are you didn't enjoy it as much as teaching in person. Maybe you didn't experience that fizz after a particularly invigorating face-to-face class. Indeed, according to a 2017 Educause survey, only 9 percent of academics prefer to teach "in a completely online environment." That means a whopping 91 percent of us don't. And I suspect that a good majority of that 91 percent would prefer to teach anywhere but online.

Ex Post Facto ยป Diigo as a Teaching Tool - 0 views

  • Diigo as a Teaching Tool Iโ€™ve recently started using a new social bookmarking service called Diigo to collect and share online resources with my students. (Diigo has features similar to del.icio.us, which I have also used for teaching, but itโ€™s substantially more powerful.) The appealing thing about Diigo is that it allows me not only to create a list of links but also to highlight and annotate webpages. In other words, I can point to and comment on specific sections of a webpage. Diigo works really well for sharing, but I also think that it could be very useful for doing research online, because you can essentially highlight and annotate much as you do on paper. To get a better idea of what Diigo can do, take a look at my annotated collection of links on โ€œRace, Culture, and Politics in the New South,โ€ or access my links collections

So Many Papers, So Little Time | Vitae - 0 views

Want more teaching tips? Browse the Pedagogy Unbound archives or start a thread in our teaching group. It's not just you. All over the country, college instructors young and old are groaning under the weight of too much grading. For some, this circumstance has already lasted weeks. For others, a back-loaded syllabus is only just now collecting its debts. What once had seemed to be a manageable course load has now revealed itself to be nearly untenable, with piles of ungraded papers taunting you in the office, in the car, at home. Although it happens every semester, the extent of it always comes as something of a surprise, doesn't it? How are you going to get through all this grading?

If you work in education, you'll know there's a HUGE array of applications, services, products and tools created to serve a multitude of functions in education. Tools for teaching and learning, parent-teacher communication apps, lesson planning software, home-tutoring websites, revision blogs, SEN education information, professional development qualifications and more. There are so many companies creating new products for education, though, that it can be difficult to keep up - especially with the massive volumes of planning and marking teachers have to do, never mind finding the time to actually teach!

Tips on Writing Learning Outcomes - Staff Website - U of I Library - 0 views

  •
What is a learning outcome? Learning outcomes are statements of what students will learn in a class or in a class session. The statements are focused on student learning (What will students learn today?) rather than instructor teaching (What am I going to teach today?). These statements should include a verb phrase and an impact ("in order to") phrase - what students will do/be able to do and how they will apply that skill or knowledge.

WHY QUALITY OF TEACHING IS BETTER IN UKRAINE AND RUSSIA FOR MBBS/MD DEGREE PROGRAM ? - ... - 0 views

  •
The key difference in the teaching pattern in Ukraine and Russia in comparison to the Indian institutions is profoundly the teacher-student ratio. The medical universities in Ukraine and Russia average 1:14 or 1:15 compared to Indian scenario wherein ratio is 1:50. Small batches of students undertaking classes in MBBS in RUSSIA or MBBS in UKRAINE enables students having better interaction and course engagement, thus enabling more effective peer-group learning.

Good points. On Group bookmarks we have votes now. Will be adding more meaningful (ie. taken anti-spam into consideration) contribution attributes to reward user participation!

  • If you want to truly learn something, there is nothing like teaching it, so allowing, in fact encouraging, students to help one another solve problems, to teach each other, increases learning for both the helper and the helped.
  • A group can gain social capital by being proud of what it creates and getting positive feedback from other groups. A chance for students, whether working as individuals or in collaborative groups, to give feedback to each other is a valuable tool for creating a greater sense of community and engagement toward common goals.
