Diigo Toolbar delays each new Firefox window - 40 views

    Hi,

Whenever the Diigo toolbar is enabled, I get a 5 second delay on _every_ new window Firefox opens. Initial loads, shift-clicked links, every popup window. This is quite a drag as my blog editor comes up in a new window.

This happens whether the Diigo toolbar is displayed or hidden.

I've always upgraded to the latest version -- this has been happening for about 4-6 months... anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix in the works?

I don't have that many other extensions open: Adblock Plus, Fasterfox, Firebug, GMail Mgr, and Web Dev.

    Thanks,
    --DIZZLE

    Hi Zizzle,

    What's your computer specs?

If you uninstall Diigo, how long does it take for you to open up a new FF window? Try the same experiment with other extension(s).

From my experience, normally opening up a new FF window takes up some time compared with opening up a FF tab. Have you tried using the tab window instead of opening up a brand new FF window?

    Hi Maggie,

My computer is a souped-up workstation -- 4GB Ram, Dual 3Ghz Xeon, 15K RPM SCSI etc. I don't usually have to wait for much (which makes this all the more frustrating) :)

I've run several tests and have decidedly narrowed it down to the diigo toolbar. As long as it's enabled -- with all other extensions running, or NO other extensions running -- I get the 5 second new window (doesn't happen on tabs) delay every time.

And by delay, I mean total freezup. The window paints, most times I see the contents of the page, but Firefox completely locks up during this time. Attempts to do anything in the window are met with the hourglass and the white "lockdown mode" bar under the app's title bar.

It doesn't seem, at least by what I've been searching for, that other people are having this problem... so it may just be this machine & this configuration. And if Firefox weren't such a BEAR to completely wipe clean and rebuild, I'd have done that by now...

Thankfully, the diggolet has proven a quite nimble and capable surrogate, so I guess it's not a huge deal.

Thanks for reporting. Without Diigo, do you have any delay at all when opening up a new FF window?
Our experience is that opening up FF window does take a little time with or wihout Diigo toolbar. anyone with similar experience.

We'll look further into it, Meanwhile, opening up tab instead of another new window seems to be a good alternative. Glad to hear Diigolet is helping as well.

    Hello there,

not sure if this helps, but i've had that problem for a long time too (since firefox 1.5 days), with the diigo-toolbar extension, firefox hangs, freezes for about 5-30 secs when a new window or pop-up is opened, or crashes (very rarely). this happens either with a lot extensions (30+) or just diigo and fresh firefox installed, and with windows xp pro sp2 and linux (fedora, ubuntu), on both my systems.

    Sys A:
    Core 2 Duo 1,8Ghz
    2GB RAM
    X1950 Pro

    Sys B:
    Athlon Thunderbird 1,4 Ghz
    1GB RAM
    GF4 Ti 4200

Thanks - will pass this on to our engineers.

You don't experience any delay in opening up a new tab, right?

Also, you said: "this happens either with a lot extensions (30+) or just diigo and fresh firefox installed" -->

what do you mean by the last phrase "fresh FF installed"?

dizzledorf, when does this delay happen? before the page begins to load (ie. u see *nothing* at all for that period of time), or is it a "while" the page begins to load (i'll explain that later on).

I have noticed that for a particular page where there is a fair bit of annotation (I've got 19 and more), the page loads, but the "refresh status" bit (most frequently indicated by ur flashing browser logo) keeps on going for quite a bit before it stops. And only after that do the annotations load. Is this what u mean?

maggie_diigo: yes, opening tabs does not cause that delay, opening new windows or opening pop-ups does.

the firefox process then shows a 100% cpu usage, becomes unresponsive, as mentioned before.

'fresh FF': just meant to say that i did somethimg similar to what dizzledorf described. in order to check if its related to the toolbar, i tested it with unaltered firefox installs, new profiles, and just the toolbar running, and it still hangs.
