    Spun off from topics such as

    Workaround to various issues

    Create for yourself alone a group that is:

    * private
    * nonlisted
    * invitation only.

    Benefits

    Accelerated posting of tagged bookmarks

    See the example at http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/46319#8

    — a workaround of sorts for API: POST and PUT: parameter for read or unread

    — a two-click workaround for users of Chrome, Safari and other WebKit-based browsers, who do not have a Read later button; script to apply the tag unread, then click Add new bookmark

    — a three-click workaround for priority issue Diigolet should allow the user to prefer obscurity as a default for new bookmarks, which often manifests as a privacy-related bug; script to apply the tag private, then correct the Privacy menu, then click Add new bookmark

    — etc..

    RSS feed for private items

    Based on your private tag.

    RSS feed for unread items

    Based on your unread tag.

    More

    As time passes, I'm discovering other benefits.

    Pros and cons

    The private group approach is not a panacea.

    Security through obscurity

    A tokenised URL without SSL is not truly secure

    — a similar comment re: SSL may be made concerning your private bookmarks without groups.

    Benefits (continued)

    URLs are visible.

    A command-click (or Linux/Windows control-click) on an unread bookmark, to open it in a new tab, leaves the mark intact

    — depending on your point of view, the unread marker should not change at that moment.
