With increasingly popular social networking sites aggregating unprecedented volumes of personal data, the age-old issue of online privacy is once again rearing its ugly head.

MySpace.com - Pause - 0 views

It only takes a minute to change your life. In this collaboration with the Kaiser Family Foundation, the PAUSE campaign recognizes that in a minute, everything can change. Impulsive behaviors are part of being young. Through the campaign, Fox Networks Group and Kaiser hope to encourage young people to "pause" - even if just for sixty seconds -- when confronted with a difficult or risky decision, consider the best option, and reach out to get more information and help if they need it. In that minute, they have the choice to make a good or bad call. As PAUSE indicates, "it only takes a minute to change your life." For a young person, that kind of power can be intimidating, yet also very empowering. Site includes PSA's targeting youth and informational resources.

"Living and Learning with Social Media" - 0 views

  •
Today's teens are growing up in a world where social media is everywhere. Regardless of whether or not they have access to these technologies or how they engage with them, there is little doubt that social media is playing a significant role in the changing landscape of American youth.\n\nThere are many ways to respond to this shift. The most popular response is panic. Every time a new genre of social media emerges and is adopted en masse by teens, many folks run around screaming that the sky is falling, the sky is falling! Of course, like clockwork, everything calms down once the old fogies begin adopting the technologies that they feared back when they were adopted just by the youngins.

Millions of students head to the nearest computer to conduct school research online. With the Internet's help, they can create everything from detailed projects on rainforests to slide presentations about how a hurricane forms without setting foot in a library."There's a wealth of information on the Internet, and it's a great tool," says Ross Ellis, founder and CEO of Love our Children USA, a child abuse prevention organization that is active in Internet safety. "You can't keep kids off the Internet." Yet the Internet is not the place for an all-access pass. Kids of all ages need parental supervision. Back-to-school advice for safe & ethical social networking - 0 views

  •
My message to parents and teachers is simple: embrace the technology that kids use, recognize that whatever you may lack in technology knowledge you make up in wisdom, and remember that you, too, were once a kid. Your first reaction to kid activity that may be a bit disturbing shouldn't be to freak out and shut down access but to take a deep breath, talk with (and listen to) the kids, and do everything you can to encourage dialog.

The Top 5 Most Costly U.S. Hurricanes - Adjusting to 6 Figures - 0 views

  •
Hurricanes are a nightmare for everyone in the city, state, or region they disrupt. Some hurricanes that have hit the United States have effected over 90,000 miles of land before they dissipate. Hurricanes are high gusts of winds and water that come to shore from the ocean and obliterate everything in their wake. The winds spiral inward at speeds of 75-200 mph and then these tropical cyclones pick up heat and energy from the ocean as they move at 10-20 mph. When they reach shore, they claim every building, person, or tree in their way.

Smart Backpack Travel Laptop - 0 views

  •
I bought Smart Backpack Travel Laptop for airline travel. When I packed it the first time, I was amazed by how much it held and how organized everything was. I was going to write a review then but my husband said to wait till after the trip, that it might fall apart during travel. Well, the trip is over and this backpack is easily the best AND the most comfortable I've ever had. Zippers worked fine, the computer section was padded, the big compartment easily held my CPAP, the wide padded straps and padded back felt terrific, and the handle on top was easy to hold and felt very sturdy. Would happily buy this again for anyone needing a good backpack. I LOVED having my carry-on on my back instead of hanging off a shoulder or dragging behind me.
