"Web 2.0 tools and ubiquitous access to the Internet on mobile devices have transformed the way we gather, understand, and create information and, ultimately, how we build knowledge. These dramatic changes have fundamentally altered how we work, play, and interact with each other, yet are not widely reflected in schools.

The project funded by European LLP Programme COMENIUS. The project intends to make New Media become not a threat but a tool for the development of students literacy skills and for the building of their critical and aware approach to the understanding of reality through New Media. The project aims to make teachers being able to exploit the attractive potential that New Media have on young generation in order to raise their attention and motivate them to rediscover the importance of literacy skills (reading and writing) and to approach the flow and diffusion of information that the New Media spread, with the necessary critical skills in order to become aware users.

Il Progetto Safeborders intende rendere bambini e ragazzi capaci di usare Internet come risorsa comunicativa, culturale e informativa, attraverso strategie e strumenti che consentano le creazione di una cultura della responsabilità e della consapevolezza, e attraverso la creazione di una rete europea ben articolata ed efficiente, che promuova un uso più sicuro di Internet.

Google, in collaborazione con Telefono Azzurro, Terre des Hommes e Save the Children ha creato uno strumento utile ai genitori per tutelare la sicurezza dei bambini che navigano su internet. Google annuncia di aver creato un nuovo Centro Sicurezza Online per la Famiglia, raggiungibile al link www.google.it/sicurezzafamiglia.

Our Space is a set of curricular materials designed to encourage high school students to reflect on the ethical dimensions of their participation in new media environments. Through role-playing activities and reflective exercises, students are asked to consider the ethical responsibilities of other people, and whether and how they behave ethically themselves online. These issues are raised in relation to five core themes that are highly relevant online: identity, privacy, authorship and ownership, credibility, and participation. Our Space was co-developed by Project New Media Literacies (established at MIT and now housed at University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communications and Journalism) and The GoodPlay Project (Harvard Graduate School of Education)
