Korean wave - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • He concludes his article by warning, “If the Korean Wave continues to surge, reflecting the diplomatic relations that supports a capitalist logic rather than a strengthening of the communicative power of civil society to provide the possibility of diversifying the cultural tastes of the masses, then it will have to put up a hard fight against China’s ethnocentrism and Japan’s malleable nationalism.”

Wow, that seems kind of harsh. I don't like the fact that these countries have such high competition with each other. It's like a constant war to see who is better. I guess it's just human nature to want to be the best out of the best.
  • Recent years have seen an increase in interest in the Korean language,[5] Korean cuisine[4] and Hanbok, the traditional Korean dress.
    • Helen EWSIS

I have to totally agree with statement because the Korean culture is becomming more and more popular. Koreans all over the world are digging deep in to their inner self to represent their culture in the most positive way. Thanksgiving, or Chuseok, is now known all over the world and its making a name for itself. There is also Korean Children's Day and the Korean/Lunar New Year.

  • Korean male celebrities are now among the highest-paid actors outside of Hollywood.
    • Helen EWSIS

Haha, this is so true. Korean actors and actresses make so much money and most of them start at a young age, so they can be billionaires before they even get married. Take Bi Rain for example. He just finished filming the movie, Ninja Assassin in the U.S. I can't even imagine how much money he made off this movie alone.
  • The best-selling international singers from Korea are TVXQ also known as Dong Bang Shin Ki and Tohoshinki, Rain, and BoA; the latter due in no small part to her popularity in the J-pop market.
  • With the Korean Wave phenomenon splashing throughout the South East Asia with its dramas, catchy pop songs & B-Boys dances, the Korean language & Hangul are no longer an alien to Malaysians.
  • The Korean wave started with popular Korean drama winter sonata when TV3 bought the right to show it on malaysian TV."Winter Sonata" was the first of the Korean Waves to crash onto Malaysian shores.
  • A tsunami of Korean TV series such as "Autumn Fairy Tale," "Joyful Girl," "My Love, Patsi," and "Jewel in the Palace" followed its success. "Jewel in the Palace" which showcased Korean food was as addictive as "Winter Sonata" - its lead actress Lee Young-ae is second to Bae Yong-joon as the most popular South Korean celebrity in Malaysia.
    • Helen EWSIS

It's funny how one drama can bring so much to the world. The diehard fans just can't get enough of the dramas and actors/actresses in them. It's amazing! But, sometimes it can get a little out of hand...
  • The soap opera attracted more than 1.3 million viewers per episode.
    • Helen EWSIS

That's a lot of people... just in Malaysia alone?
  • Malaysians were also swept away by South Korean pop singers and groups such as Jang Nara, Rain, BoA, BabyVox, and T.V.X.Q.For DBSK, the 2007 concert was their second concert in Malaysia since they first visited Malaysia in 2006 as part of their first Asia tour to support their “Rising Sun” album.
  • Five new Korean restaurants named Daejanggeum (Jewel in the Palace) have opened in Kuala Lumpur. Thanks to the boom of the Korean Wave trend, exports of kimchi to Malaysia increased by 150 percent.
    • Helen EWSIS

It's good to have an influence on another culture. This shows that the influence is indeed working its magic on the Malaysian society. Yay for Korean food!
  • The current popular K-pop band in Malaysia is DBSK, SS501, Super Junior, Big bang, 2PM, SNSD, SHINee, Wonder Girls, FT Island, f(x), including popular hip hop band Epik High.

This was something that I've never known about. Maybe I'll do some research on this.
  • After the success of the drama Dae Jang Geum in Iran,[9], Iranian national TV's Channel 2 showed a series of programs called Korean Wave introducing Korean culture, and interviewed the drama's lead actress Lee Young Ae
  • The Korean Wave began in earnest in Japan after the airing of Winter Sonata on NHK, with an especially warm reception for lead actor Bae Yong Joon whom the Japanese have affectionally en masse nicknamed Yon-sama.
  • Several Korean artists have also had success targeting the Japanese market, such as BoA, TVXQ, Won Bin, SS501, Super Junior and most recently, Big Bang.
  • In fact, BoA is the first and only non-Japanese Asian to have two million-selling albums and one of only two artists to have six consecutive albums top the Oricon chart.
    • Helen EWSIS

I love BoA; she is really an inspiration. She started her international career at such a young age. She was only 14 years old when she signed under the management of SM Entertainment in 2000. She is known globally for her ability to compose songs, sing, dance, model, and how she adapts to languages. She is highly famed in Japan and Korea for her ability to produce songs in Japanese and Korean.
  • ABS-CBN, after being out-gunned by its rival GMA Network in airing Korean dramas, has three of the biggest South Korean television networks as their affiliates (KBS, MBC and SBS) in order to have a steady supply of Korean dramas, which are insanely popular in the country.

I was searching for a poem about "unfaithful Catholics," and found this. It is not a good poem, but it will do for now. Maybe I just don't know what to search for, because my topic is about, "Catholics who don't practice their religion." This poem is about a woman who has made a promise she can't keep to her husband or lover, but finds herself tangled in an affair. She doesn't know what to do.

Religion and divorce - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

This is important because Catholicism is the only religion that does not allow for a divorce.
  • "Let not the wife depart from her husband...let not the husband put away his wife" (1 Corinthians 7:10-11), but he also includes the Pauline privilege.
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

This demonstrates that Jesus did not support divorces. (What is the Pauline privilege?)

  • Dharmic religions do not have a concept of divorce. A person following these religions cannot divorce his/her spouse. However, the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 applicable to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains in India does have provisions for divorce under some circumstances.
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

This is important, well not really, because I can compare other religions with Catholicism.
  • However, divorced Catholics are still welcome to participate fully in the life of the church so long as they have not remarried against church law,
  • Since Deuteronomy 24:1-4 did not give Jewish women the right to directly initiate a divorce (See Agunah), did Jesus' answers "in the house" to his disciples expand the rights of women or did they merely acknowledge that some Jewish women, such as Herodias who divorced Herod Boethus, were wrongfully taking rights because Jewish women were being assimilated by other cultures?

  • By the end of the Third War, goblins were providing weaponry, vehicles, and devious services to both the Horde and the Alliance. This wouldn't last forever. Recently, the goblins of Kezan have found a new enemy in the Alliance – unexpected and unprofitable encounters with this faction have driven certain goblins from their comfortable neutrality. Reforging old pacts with their one-time allies, the goblins have been welcomed into the Horde with open arms. Classes available to the Goblins are Death Knight, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock and Warrior.

Epoch Times - Trust-An Essential Ingredient in Relationships Says Dalai Lama - 0 views

  •
I'm learning more about trust right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How are trustworthy people identified? I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because it talked about Dalai Lama believed in trust within communities rather than individuals. "Trust is a crucial element in building strong communites, the Dalai Lama told a large audience at Auckland's Vector Arena Dec 5." The quote I chose here is basically saying that trust is need in communities to unite people. When they're able to trust each other, they can create a strong and stable community. I think this is interesting because it takes a different look at trust. It looks at trust in a larger manner rather than trust with two individuals. It makes me wonder if a community is able to become stable and improve without having trust.

I'm learning more about envy right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is "How does envy affect people lives". I was searching this question online and this poem caught my attention because it explains exactly one reaction that envy can cause on people. "When the poison reaches the heart it's too late. Disastrous emotions take over such as revenge and hate." The quote I chose here is basically saying that envy cause people to get their emotions mixed up leading them to do the wrong thing. It also cause people to take revenge and do something they'll regret later on. I think this is correct because that how people react with envy. Not everyone reacts like that but most of them do.

Disgraced pediatrician loses licence for 7 years - 0 views

I'm learning more about things that occur in the medical field right now, and in particular what i'm wondering about is this news paper article.I was researching the question online, and this news item caught my attention because this old man has been a pedittrican for many years and he sexually assualted and drugged all his patients. I think that he is stupid for doing this. It is not worth waiting all your time in medical scholl and in college to throw your career down the drain. "A disgraced pediatrician found gulty of sexually assaulting his patients has had his medical licence suspended for a period of seven years." The quote i chose here is basically saying that a medical doctor was found gulity of sexually assualting his patients for seven years and he had his liscene taken away for 7 years. I think this is wrong because, it makes me wonder the type of things that other people do when they are in the medical field.I think that some people take advantage of their careers and they think that they won't get caught.

The Twelve Gates: Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi Synastry Part 2 - 0 views

  •
I'm learning more about synastry right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How accurate is it? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it actually focuses on two real, well-known, people. "The patnership works best when they pursue goals with passionate commitment. Obviously there is the need to be aware that this can be a difficult contact and they have had their fair share of psychic conflicts that can at times spill out into violence of some sort. Lisa's control and distance can create passionate fury in Patrick's Mars. The couple have faced a lot in their relationship and this shows in their more difficult contacts. Patrick has battled alcohol, cocain and a riding accident that almost left him paralyzed, and his final battle was the fight against Cancer." The quote I chose here is basically saying that because of their synastry the two celebrities blend well. Also, their personalities tend to make them work together more. I think this is great support in favor of my topic because it focuses on real people providing an accurate example. It makes me wonder if I'll find more articles like this. I hope so. I kind of want to change my question. I can't find enough news articles on the topic.

I'm learning more about Global Warming right now, and in particular what I'm wondering is will we have to live underwater in the future? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because many things are changing around the world. Disasters like hurricanes grow stronger and other things like drought become longer and deadlier. Few challenges facing America-and the world-are more urgent than combating climate change. The science is beyond dispute and the facts are clear. Sea levels are rising. Coastlines are shrinking. We've seen record drought, spreading famine, and storms that are growing stronger with each passing hurricane season. The quote here is basically saying that our continents are sinking into the sea or is getting swallowed by the sea. Things like hurricanes grow stronger from this and other disasters also grow deadlier. I think this is scary because one year your house might be right next to the coast line and the next year, right when you step out of your backyard, your stepping on ocean water. This makes me think will we have to live underwater in the future and adopt to underwater conditions.

Love Poems - Teenage Love Poems - Don't Tell Me You Love Me by Love - 0 views

I'm learning more about trust right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How are trustworthy people identified? I was researching this question online, and this poem caught my attention because it discusses other factors of a relationships that intertwine with trust. "So, when I put all of my trust deep within you Please don't tell me you love me, unless you truly do." The quote I chose here is basically saying that when you learn to trust someone, you expect the same thing back. With trust, you expect to gain true love as well. When people learn to trust another, they want something in a form of a reward. I think this is accurate because when many people commit to something and spend their time, learning to do something, they want something in return. It makes me wonder if a person finally learns to build trust in someone, will they ever be able to trust again if they're betrayed?

In Kobe Bryant's estimation, the Lakers are doing just fine -- latimes.com - 0 views

  •
"Kobe Bryant is always looking for something to improve, something to fix, some way to gain an edge, part of what drives him to be, well, Kobe Bryant. But he seemed satisfied when asked whether there was anything the Lakers could be doing better these days. "Not really," he said. "We are doing well." The Lakers (16-3) have won nine consecutive games, eight with Pau Gasol back in the lineup, and their only close call came against Miami, when Bryant's 27-foot three-point basket at the buzzer prevented a loss. Coach Phil Jackson gave the starters and Lamar Odom a day off after the Lakers throttled the Phoenix Suns on Sunday for the second time in a month. Their reserves were required to report to the team training facility and do some light work Monday, but the only thing staring uncomfortably at the Lakers is the end of the home-friendly part of their schedule. They have two more games at Staples Center before hitting the road, finally, for five games. Beyond that, there's really no reason to complain. Victories against Utah on Wednesday and Minnesota on Friday would give them their longest winning streak since they won 11 in a row toward the end of the 2003-04 season. "We've got the best record in the league and we want to keep it that way," Gasol said. "It's just the first quarter of the regular season. We've still got a long ways to go. We understand that we've had a lot of home games this first part of the season and that it's going to get complicated and a lot harder. So we have to be ready for it." Seventeen of the Lakers' first 21 games will have been at Staples Center before they play Saturday at Utah. They will then fly home for two days before heading back out for a four-game trip to Chicago, Milwaukee, New Jersey and Detroit."

If it can help them with something that delicate, it certainly can improve your handwriting." so technically me practicing pen spinning will help me in college but a thing that stood out to me in the paragraph was that hand to eye reaction games can greatly improve your skill in all the things listed in the paragraph which is great because i play a game called DJ Max which is like DDR for your fingers but much harder so now that i know playing these games can help im going to play a lot more
