  • Taking your heavy bags with you to Italy could be costly indeed -- even if the airline accepted them -- largely because of the difference between the so-called piece system baggage rule, which predominates in the United States and on flights between the United States and Europe, and the weight system, which is commonly used in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

      hm.
  • Airlines in general are adopting tougher baggage rules to keep fuel costs under control. British Airways, for example, no longer accepts any checked baggage over 32 kilograms (70.5 pounds), except for certain items, including musical instruments, electric wheelchairs and sporting equipment, that have not been approved and registered 24 hours in advance. Northwest and American have recently reduced their baggage allowances for coach class to about 50 pounds an item, down from 70 pounds.

  • Can you explain why we would face these charges in Europe, but not, apparently, in the United States?

Korean wave - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • South Korea is among the world's top ten cultural exporters[3] and the Korean wave began with the export of Korean TV dramas
    • LawrenceY EWSIS

Because South Korea is a major cultural exporter, it allows the beginning of the korean wave
  • Korean wave's influence is most visible in China, Japan and Southeast Asia, spreading to India,[6] the Middle East,[7] Central Asia,[8] Iran,[9] Israel,[10] Turkey[11] and Russia.[11] The Korean wave is rapidly expanding beyond Asia through the internet and has a substantial presence in North, Central and South America, particularly in Chile, Mexico and Argentina,[12] and is increasingly becoming popular in the United States.[13] It is also gaining momentum in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, led by Hungary[14] and Norway.[15] It is gathering positive interest in North Africa, attracting a sizable niche audience in Egypt.[16] Currently, the Korean wave is starting to hit the shores of the United Kingdom[17][18] and Australia.[
  • The Korean wave first began in the early 1990s with the film industry under the strict surveillance of the Korean government.

  • Due to censorship and restrictions, producers were limited as to what they were able to produce, giving birth to the melodrama. Such melodramas are now ubiquitous, and are commonly viewed not only in South Korea, but in much of Asia as well.
    • LawrenceY EWSIS

while the korean government tried to control what went on in tv, it spread to other countries which was the beginning of the korean wave
  • The Korean wave is seen as a product of globalization and rise of capitalism in Asia.
    • LawrenceY EWSIS

the korean wave mada asia more noticeable throughout the world
  • Many Chinese scholars attribute success of the Korean Wave to Confucian themes that East Asian cultures are more familiar with, typically dealing with traditional issues such as family, love, and filial piety in an age of changing technology and values.
    • LawrenceY EWSIS

i don't think the success of the korean wave is due to Confucian themes, because some of korea's products most of the time lack Confucian themes
  • South Korea is a highly developed country[25], which is greatly reflected on its dramas, movies and TV shows, giving many viewers a "Korea Dream"
    • LawrenceY EWSIS

if korea was not a developed country it might not have had much of a success spreading its culture
  • In 2001, many critics predicted the Korean wave would soon cool down. However contrary to most expectations, the Korean wave has grown stronger since 2003.[
    • LawrenceY EWSIS

when will the korean wave die down?
  • Vietnam's government threatened to ban the broadcast of Korean shows if they outnumbered the Vietnamese shows being broadcast on television.[57] Taiwan considered limits on the broadcast of foreign shows. China also considered boycotting or limiting the amount of Korean imports in the entertainment sector
    • LawrenceY EWSIS

this is basically saying that the korean wave is too over powering in some countries that they have to limit what comes out on tv

its a massive multiplayer role playing in short mmorpg i love playing mmorpg :3 yeahh i jus wanna take up space :D
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

Game creators consider seasons and the game has room for upgrading.
  • In it, players design a character to play based on a number of starting options, such as the race of character and its type or class.
    • Tian EWSIS

I like that players can design their own charactors.
    • Andrea. C

yea, it sounds like it's funner if the game has different jobs to play
    • Chun Heng EWSIS

it is the top online game throughout the wolrd =)
    • Ammy EWSIS

There are many games similar to this.. such as maple story, flyff, ragnorak... its nothing new. The only thing good about WoW is the graphics and the fact that they update the game every single week. I'm rather tired of kinds of games because all you do is level and fight. It got pretty boring to me.
    • diane ewsis

this is for the whole paragraph the combat seems so interesting
    • JustinM EWSIS

its hard to find a mmorpg that doesnt have a character design feature unless it is really crappy or low quality even then its still hard to find one thats well known
    • Hannah EWSIS

I agree with Justin almost all have character design features.
    • Anna EWSIS

Yeah I know what you mean ammy. At first I was addicted to MS but all i did was level and fight. It bored me.
    • Michael Harris

I like that fact that you can obtain a character based on race
    • Noreen C

Why is it so important to have a character design? I mean I get it when a person picks what character they want to be, but why do you need to pick the color of their hair, or race?

  • Season
  • The game has three roles, DPS (damage dealer), tank and healer, a member of any class can be customized for the DPS role, while members of some classes, known as hybrids, can also be customized as healers, tanks or any of the three roles.
    • YuDi EWSIS

The different classes makes the game funner.
    • Jessica =D

Also helps to play. You need a healer to heal your party and the such.
    • William Utama

ofcourse if people have the classes it will be boring~~
    • Hawa EWSIS

Hmm...I hate being a healer though...healers are boring in my opinion.

i think it is titled world of warcraft because this is an alternate world where people are learning the art of war, or how to make war/fight in wars.
    • Yuval S

Helen, i think that there is also a meaning to this weird name
    • Kim T

I'm guessing the name is either something in another language or gibberish.

Each character is assigned a role at your decision. Play in a group or individually.
  • Players can also participate in player versus player combat, either in large groups or small team matches.
    • Helen EWSIS

I find this to be very typical in all kinds of games.
    • Houin EWSIS

Many games usually allow players make their own groups.
    • Hawa EWSIS

Hmm the yellow questions I have seen in other games for quests and stuff....
  • al and periodical events have also been added, such as Halloween, Midsummer and weekly fishing competitions
    • Tian EWSIS

Although it's in a fictional world, there are still realistic things, such as Halloween. This makes the game more attractive and interesting.
    • Houin EWSIS

i agree with you,the game will following the real holiday and create some activitly or quest about the holiday.
    • Andrea. C

Yea, I think when there's events like these, people get drawn in because they get rare items or whatever
    • MelissaB EWSIS

I think that this is giving people a excuse to be anti social and have no life why talk to real people or go outside when there is a whole vertual reality the mirrors the real world.
    • Shehrina EWSIS

I agree too. holidays always makes pepole happy and when there favorite holidays are in the game its more interesting.
    • Yuval S

I agree, I like the idea of putting special things for special events.
    • Noreen C

But isn't one of the main attractions of video games to put people in an alternate world? I, in fact, don't think the game is very realistic. The whole idea of fantasy is what is so different from real world. I think that's what is most appealing.
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

Professions are different from roles. You can actually get useful skills fit for that profession.
  • Characters can be resurrected by other characters that have the ability, or can self-resurrect by moving from the graveyard to the place where they died.
  • To start, players select a game realm or server to play on.
  • Each realm is in one of four different categories, depending on which set of combat rules it uses.
    • Tian EWSIS

The main goal of the game is to defeat monsters and complete the mission, which is very similar to the one that I used to be playing.

  • Enhancing a character's reputation can gain access to rare items, unique abilities and profession-based patterns and plans,[29] as well as lowering cost of items sold by NPCs belonging to that faction

  • Players are also able to customize their character through the use of talents, which are further abilities related to their character class.[9][10]
    • Munaza EWSIS

This sound fun, and very engaging becasue people can can create characters depending the person.
  • roleplay versions of both these types, where players are encouraged to control their character as if they were an inhabitant of a fantasy world
    • Helen EWSIS

I can't imagine someone getting so in to the game... but I guess it's fairly normal also. How do you do that? o_o
    • Luis EWSIS

This sounded like Sims, but it would be interesting to have this combination of battle and civil life
    • Shehrina EWSIS

People get addicted to a game. And when they are playing their favorite video games they have no idea about whats going on around them.
    • Jeannie EWSIS

I think this game sounds pretty fun.. I used to like roleplaying games
    • Yuval S

A lot of people go ODE about the game. you will if you also play
    • Noreen C

This does sound like Sims, however it is more fantasy. I guess it's what someone wants to get out of the game. I think that the idea of going on hunts and the whole monsters and dragons thing makes it very different than Sims.
  • In one of the updates following the release of the Burning Crusade expansion, the rate at which characters gain experience from killing monsters was increased, along with reducing the amount of experience required to gain further skills and abilities.
    • YuDi EWSIS

By accumulate experiences can make players beat boss.
  • Race determines the character's appearance, starting location, and initial skill set, called "racial traits".
    • Tian EWSIS

"Racial traits" does not only determine the appearance of each charactor, but also affect their skills in combat. I like how this is designed.
  • Characters are also able to learn two primary professions from a list of ten. These can be gathering professions, such as mining, herb gathering, or animal skinning. Characters can also choose from crafting professions, such as blacksmithing, leatherworking, or enhancement professions such as enchanting or inscription.

this game iv heard of many times and it is suppose to be a good game however i find that it gets extremely tedious really fast and it gets boring after time which is good for a game that you piad for and have to keep paying for in order to play it
    • Jose EWSIS

World of Warcraft is a place where people can leave their everyday lives and live a "cooler" much perfered life to escape reality. It is here where a great world of interaction occurs and technology truely shines as we see it in action.
    • Helen EWSIS

This is really interesting... GLOBAL APPROACH?
    • Dylan EWSIS

I can see how people get addicted because they dont want to miss out on any extra priviledges so they buy all the extra game packs ot keep up to date with the game.
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

General idea of questing. Awards and experience points are given after completing a quest.
  • As well as banding together to form groups, players can also band together to form guilds. These structures allow players several benefits, such as easier communication and an identifying guild name and tabard. Guild members can also be given access to a central pool of resources known as a guild bank.[13] Guilds can also make use of an in-game calendar, allowing guild members to view scheduled events, and respond to them with whether they can attend or not. This calendar can also be accessed without need to log-in to the game, using the Armory feature.[14]

  • Death Knights are a hero class, which means the player needs a level 55 (at least) and they start at level 55 with many skills, abilities, weapons and armor. While a character can be played on its own, players can also group up with others in order to tackle more challenging content. In this way, character classes are used in specific roles within a group

  • In common with many MMORPGs, World of Warcraft requires players to pay for a subscription, usually either by credit-card or by buying a card from a retailer to redeem for a pre-determined amount of subscription time.[15]
    • Houin EWSIS

it is very expersive.some MMORPGs is free.:)
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

This paragraph shows that one can improve "reputation." There are rare abilities available.
  • Further options to customize the appearance, such as hairstyles, skin tones, etc are also available.
    • Helen EWSIS

REALLY? I thought that was just in games that "dress up" their characters as opposed to fictionous animated characters.

  • Players can discover 'flight masters' in newly discovered locations and then use those NPCs in order to fly to previously discovered locations in other parts of the world.[19
  • As well as banding together to form groups, players can also band together to form guilds.
    • Tian EWSIS

Players can interact with each other, which makes the game more fun. The players can also share experience with each other.
  • Depending on the race chosen and the expansions installed, a player then has four to seven of the game's ten character classes to choose from.
    • Helen EWSIS

I'm a little confused... based on whatever they choose before, they then choose another character classes??
    • Houin EWSIS

the game only have 3 main character, after up lvl,it can upgrade to other character.

    • AndreaLee EWSIS

Overall, I am very bored of this lesson and feel that this is pointless because I really don't care about the history or explanation of the "Gameplay of World of Warcraft." Plus, this game is rather boring and makes me not want to play. Great.
    • Kim T

I agree. The game seems really confusing and pointless. I don't find it necessary to learn about a fantasy world that isn't really interesting or beneficial.

  • n this game world, players use their characters to explore locations, defeat creatures and complete quests.
    • Tian EWSIS

Players have to explore locations themselves. That means the plot is not determined by the game and it will leave the players more to imagine.
    • Ammy EWSIS

I like exploring in games especially when the game has very good graphics.
    • JustinM EWSIS

same old style of gameplay lols
  • Although the game world remains reasonably similar from day to day, changes have been made over time. • First, some realms allow player versus player combat to take place almost anywhere in the game world outside of areas for new players.
    • YuDi EWSIS

The system of players vs players makes the game in touch with the real world. Players vs. real players in the game.

Irrationality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • Irrationality is cognition, thinking, talking or acting without inclusion of rationality.
  • The term is used, usually pejoratively, to describe thinking and actions that are, or appear to be, less useful or illogical than other more rational alternatives.
    • Christos EWSIS

Irrationality is doing something without rationality, without reason or any logic behind it.
  • people fail to realize the irrationality of their actions and believe they are acting perfectly rational, possibly due to flaws in their reasoning
    • Christos EWSIS

This is impoetant because it is a valid reason for irrationality and also a reason for people being idiots.

  • peers who convey irrational thoughts as necessary idiosyncrasy for social acceptance
    • Christos EWSIS

I thinl this is very important bacause it is a big reason why peopl are stupid/irrational.
  • Irrational is not always viewed as a negative. The Dada and Surrealist art movements, for example, embraced irrationality as a means to "reject reason and logic". Andre Breton, for example, argued for a rejection of pure logic and reason which are seen as responsible for many contemporary social problems [1].
    • Christos EWSIS

Being irrational is not always bad, its just when it is the wroung reason for irrationality, sometime you need irrationality, it could help you think a little differenter.
  • Irrationalist is a wide term. It may be applied to mean one without rationality, for their beliefs or ideas. Or, more precisely, it may mean someone who rejects some aspect of rationalism, variously defined. For example religious faith may be seen as, in part, a rejection of complete rationalism about the world; this would be contested by some religious thinkers, in that the rational is a debatable term. On the other hand, it might be considered irrationalist to buy a lottery ticket, on the basis that the expected value is negative.
    • Christos EWSIS

This paragraph is important because it touches a little more on irrationality, like the example they give.
  • Irrational behaviors of individuals include taking offense or becoming angry about a situation that has not yet occurred, expressing emotions exaggeratedly (such as crying hysterically), maintaining unrealistic expectations, engaging in irresponsible conduct such as problem intoxication, disorganization, or extravagance, and falling victim to confidence tricks. People with a mental illness like schizophrenia may exhibit irrational paranoia.
    • Christos EWSIS

I wonder if irrationality is really related to a mental disorder.
  • The term irrational is often used in psychotherapy and the concept of irrationality is especially known in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy originated and developed by American psychologist Albert Ellis. In this approach, the term irrational is used in a slightly different way than in general. Here irrationality is defined as the tendency and leaning that humans have to act, emote and think in ways that are inflexible, unrealistic, absolutist and most importantly self- and social-defeating and destructive[1].
    • Christos EWSIS

I think this is important because it shows how irrationality is used for psycotherapy
  • Irrational thought was seen in Europe as part of the reaction against Continental rationalism. For example Hamann is sometimes classified as an irrationalist.
  • In psychology, excessive rationality without creativity may be viewed as a form of self-control and protection

Recycling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

shared by Binetou EWSIS on 09 Dec 09 - Cached
  • Recyclable materials include many kinds of glass, paper, metal, plastic, textiles, and electronics. Although similar in effect, the composting or other reuse of biodegradable waste – such as food or garden waste – is not typically considered recycling.[2] Materials to be recycled are either brought to a collection center or picked up from the curbside, then sorted, cleaned, and reprocessed into new materials bound for manufacturing.
    • Binetou EWSIS

I think this imporant because people can recycle small things that they use everyday
  • In a strict sense, recycling of a material would produce a fresh supply of the same material, for example used office paper to more office paper, or used foamed polystyrene to more polystyrene. However, this is often difficult or too expensive (compared with producing the same product from raw materials or other sources), so "recycling" of many products or materials involves their reuse in producing different materials (e.g., cardboard) instea
    • Binetou EWSIS

I think he mean that we can reuse simple stuff.Like if we buy recycle paper we pay less. If you use recycle stuff you are helping our enviroment
  • Another form of recycling is the salvage of certain materials from complex products, either due to their intrinsic value (e.g., lead from car batteries, or gold from computer components), or due to their

  • hazardous nature (e.g., removal and reuse of mercury from various items).
  • Critics dispute the net economic and environmental benefits of recycling over its costs, and suggest that proponents of recycling often make matters worse and suffer from confirmation bias.
    • Binetou EWSIS

I think this is very important because recycling can be bad OMG
  • Specifically, critics argue that the costs and energy used in collection and transportation detract from (and outweigh) the costs and energy saved in the production process; also that the jobs produced by the recycling industry can be a poor trade for the jobs lost in logging, mining, and other industries associated with virgin production; and that materials such as paper pulp can only be recycled a few times before material degradation prevents further recycling. Proponents of recycling dispute each of these claims, and the validity of arguments from both sides has led to enduring controversy. Contents [hide]
    • Binetou EWSIS

recycling vis good but it can be bad because of the transportation and the job it's of waste of money HAHAHA
  • Recycling has been a common practice for most of human history, with recorded advocates as far back as Plato in 400 BC. During periods when resources were scarce, archaeological studies of ancient waste dumps show less household waste (such as ash, broken tools and pottery)—implying more waste was being recycled in the absence of new material.[3]
    • Binetou EWSIS

another source said that centries ago that their use to be less was as now. Interesting as evolution came people change to worse or good
  • In pre-industrial times, there is evidence of scrap bronze and other metals being collected in Europe and melted down for perpetual reuse.[4] In Britain dust and ash from wood and coal fires was collected by 'dustmen' and downcycled as a base material used in brick making. The main driver for these types of recycling was the economic advantage of obtaining recycled feedstock instead of acquiring virgin material, as well as a lack of public waste removal in ever more densely populated areas.[3] In 1813, Benjamin Law developed the process of turning rags into 'shoddy' and 'mungo' wool in Batley, Yorkshire. This material combined recycled fibres with virgin wool. The West Yorkshire shoddy industry in towns such as Batley and Dewsbury, lasted from the early 19c to at least the First World War
    • Binetou EWSIS

I wonder why they say that because I though that indrustrial revolution was a pollution time
  • For a recycling program to work, having a large, stable supply of recyclable material is crucial. Three legislative options have been used to create such a supply: mandatory recycling collection, container deposit legislation, and refuse bans
    • Binetou EWSIS

he mean thjis that we shou;d use less things if we want to recycle.
  • Governments have used their own purchasing power to increase recycling demand through what are called "procurement policies".

Religion and divorce - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

This is important because Catholicism is the only religion that does not allow for a divorce.
  • "Let not the wife depart from her husband...let not the husband put away his wife" (1 Corinthians 7:10-11), but he also includes the Pauline privilege.
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

This demonstrates that Jesus did not support divorces. (What is the Pauline privilege?)

  • Dharmic religions do not have a concept of divorce. A person following these religions cannot divorce his/her spouse. However, the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 applicable to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains in India does have provisions for divorce under some circumstances.
    • AndreaLee EWSIS

This is important, well not really, because I can compare other religions with Catholicism.
  • However, divorced Catholics are still welcome to participate fully in the life of the church so long as they have not remarried against church law,
  • Since Deuteronomy 24:1-4 did not give Jewish women the right to directly initiate a divorce (See Agunah), did Jesus' answers "in the house" to his disciples expand the rights of women or did they merely acknowledge that some Jewish women, such as Herodias who divorced Herod Boethus, were wrongfully taking rights because Jewish women were being assimilated by other cultures?

  •
This map shows the percentage of people affected by hunger. As you can see, Africa is most affected by this world issue. Almost more than half of the countries on the continent is 35% or more affected. There are also places in Europe, Asia, South America, and some places in North America that have hunger. Surprisingly, you don't see anything in the U.S. [I wonder why! I guess it's because we're the fattest nation in the world!]
  •
I'm learning more about food securities and how we can change the world by helping out. In this map, I can see that poverty exists more in the southern regions of the world. I think that it's kind of ironic when these are the countries that the world rely on. It's where we buy our cotton, our coffee beans, bananas and corn.
  •
The food hunger crisis is a big concern for me now because its very sad and horrifying to believe that this is actually happening as I type this. I could never imagine what kind life this could be because I have been so lucky and blessed with the life I have. In a way, even though I am just a middle/average class type of person, I feel very rich and spoiled compared to these helpless poor people who are starving around the world.

The map have show that the food crisis around the world.on the map African was the most danger place.and the most part of North America have a percent of undernourishment in total population over 5%.

How to use the nature power - 0 views

  •
The universe is full of power, earth is a tiny piece of the whole universe. Human already knew how to use the nature power and that power makes our life much better. If we can use universe power, our life must be cooler. The earth is rotating the sun and the sun is rotating too. If we use the power of rotating, we can save a lot of energy. And if we understand of the universe, we can stop a lot of farm to happen. The space has huge power and the power is harmful, a single planet can be destroyed by the power. If we can use the power and know things earlier, then there will be less problems, and human life will be longer. People are trying to use solar energy now, where sun lights create power and it's a good way to save energy. "There has been a dramatic decrease in cost and prices over the past 12 months, which puts utilities in a strong position to bargain," says Chris O'Brien, head of market development for Oerlikon Solar. The Swiss company launched its solar group in 2007, offering end to end manufacturing lines for thin film PV. O'Brien says first-generation thin film customers in Europe have a manufacturing cost of approximately $1.50/W for a thin film PV module. His company's goal is to drive costs to around $0.70/W by the end of next year. With the current cost structure, including federal incentives, a 10 MW PV plant in California can have a delivered cost of electricity of around $0.15/kW. O'Brien says he expects that to fall below $0.10/kW by 2012. I really like this quote, because it told us how much money that the solar energy is saving for us. And it also told us, if we use the nature power, we can do a lot to keep our earth healthier.
