Disgraced pediatrician loses licence for 7 years - 0 views

I'm learning more about things that occur in the medical field right now, and in particular what i'm wondering about is this news paper article.I was researching the question online, and this news item caught my attention because this old man has been a pedittrican for many years and he sexually assualted and drugged all his patients. I think that he is stupid for doing this. It is not worth waiting all your time in medical scholl and in college to throw your career down the drain. "A disgraced pediatrician found gulty of sexually assaulting his patients has had his medical licence suspended for a period of seven years." The quote i chose here is basically saying that a medical doctor was found gulity of sexually assualting his patients for seven years and he had his liscene taken away for 7 years. I think this is wrong because, it makes me wonder the type of things that other people do when they are in the medical field.I think that some people take advantage of their careers and they think that they won't get caught.

Ex-NFL player says league is ducking mounting toll of head trauma -- baltimoresun.com - 0 views

I'm learning more about sports and head trauma right now, and in particular what I'm wondering is: Why are concussions not taken seriously in the NFL? I was researching this question, and this news item caught my attention because is addresses my question. The title brought me to it. "A doctor examined Stein on the sideline and told him he might have a concussion. As was the custom at the time, he asked if Stein wanted to return to the game; as was the custom, Stein said yes. He had no idea he had a skull fracture until 15 years later, when a sinus infection slipped through the break and morphed into a near-fatal case of spinal meningitis." The quote that I chose here is basically saying that a football player came to the sidelines with symptoms of a concussion. The medical trainer came and told him that he has one, then asked him if he wanted to go back into the game. I think this is ridiculous because If someone has a concussion, they should not be permitted to return to the playing field. It makes me wonder if the player had died how the trainer would have reacted. What if he had been questioned by the press on why he handled it that way.

2010 Haiti earthquake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • Strong shaking with intensity VII–IX on the Modified Mercalli scale (MM) was recorded in Port-au-Prince and its suburbs. It was also felt in several surrounding countries and regions, including Cuba (MM III in Guantánamo), Jamaica (MM II in Kingston), Venezuela (MM II in Caracas), Puerto Rico (MM II–III in San Juan), and the bordering country of Dominican Republic (MM III in Santo Domingo).
  • As one of the poorest nations in the world, Haiti's construction standards are remarkably low, and engineers have stated that it is unlikely many buildings would have stood through any kind of disaster.

I wonder would they reconstructed new buildings and learn from what happened here.
  • The top executive of the United Methodist Committee on Relief, The Reverend Dr Sam Dixon is in Haiti with two others from UMCOR. There has been no word on their location or safety. [86] Also, one student and two faculty members from a 13-person student group from Lynn University in Florida are still missing.

  • The Argentine Air Force field mobile hospital, already deployed at Port-au-Prince, was the only medical facility still open [95] while Argentine helicopters from UN flight are helping evacuate the "gravely injured" people to Santo Domingo

This is basically saying tat argentina deployed their helicopters to help save the people who are trapped inside the earthquake hit region.
  • All hospitals were destroyed or so badly damaged that they have been abandoned.

This is important since you need hospitals to help cure and heal people as well as helping them.
