The Story of Sam He plays the saxophone and is in his school's jazz band. He is a senior in high school and is about to graduate. He is here from Mexico and immigrated here when he was 5 years old. His visa expired and his father did not reapply for one. "I was raised an American." He did not get in to college because of his legal status. Michelle is his girlfriend, she plays the piano. His family wanted him to keep a low key because they were afraid of what would happen. Every Sunday morning, his family gets together to play together. His mom sings, brother plays the drums, sister plays the bass, and his father is a pastor. He graduates high school in Indiana and his dream is to go to Indiana University, but he applied too late and issues arose. He did not qualify for financial aid because he is undocumented. His father tries to push him to find a job in the summer since school is about to start in 2 months. He cannot pay for tuition, cannot commute to college because he doesn't have a driver's license, and can't work on the mark. "I can't go very far." "I'm not sure what my future is..."

Right now we are listening to a podcast. The podcaster is talking about himself. The podcast is about a guy who is undocumented and its his struggle in college. One quote that stood out for me was "whole family plays music on the stage." This stood out for me because it shows that he has a close family and they are there for each other. Another quote that stood out for me was " The whole college proses was very frustrating" I understand him because I am also going through this college proses and it is very confusing at times. Also stressful because everything has to be right. I admire Sam because With all the obstetrical in his life he still going to college and getting an education. It is great that his family is supporting him.

Sam's parents did not teach him his indigenous culture/language. They possibly thought that by not teaching him Spanish it'd become easier for him to assimilate to the American culture, but by doing so I feel like it cost him a part of his identity. What if Sam get's deported, he won't be able to survive in an environment that he's not familiar too. His own father acknowledges his sons capability to adjust in born country.

Majority of the Americans, especially fans, favor on having a playoff, just like in every other sports leagues, to determine a National Champion, rather than having multiple Bowl games. According to survey conducted by Quinnipiac University, 63 percent favor a playoff system while getting rid of the current system. Only 26 percent favor on keeping the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) system. Even the President of our nation, Barack Obama favors a playoff system in college football. This issue was even involved in the U.S. Congress. The House was planning on passing a legislation to remove the current BCS system and implement a playoffs to decide a National Champion. However, 48 percent of the fans do not think it's a good idea for Congress to get involved with this, while 45 percent do. The Congress hasn't done anything yet. I personally believe that the Congress should stay out of this and worry about much more important government issues. What exactly is the BCS? It is a selection process that creates five bowl games that matches up the top 10 ranked teams in the nation. The Number 1 and 2 ranked teams in the nation are matched up for the BSC National Championship game. The other teams are subjected to other BCS bowl games which are, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona and the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida. From the season when the BCS was created, the National Championship game rotated among the 4 bowls. But starting from 2007, the BCS made the Championship Game as a separate match up from the other 4 bowls. How are teams selected to a bowl game? Im learning more about college basketball and basketball in general, and what i am particulary wondering about is how different was the sport then (in 1891) to now. I was reasearching this question online and this blog post caught my attension because it explains the history of the game. "After rejecting other ideas as either too rough or poorly suited to walled-in gymnasiums, he wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot (3.05 m) elevated track. In contrast with modern basketball nets, this peach basket retained its bottom, so balls scored into the basket had to be poked out with a long dowel each time. A soccer ball was used to shoot goals. Whenever a person got it in the basket, they would give their team a point. Whoever got the most points, they would win the game.[2]" The quote I chose here is showing how the game evolved over many years. When the game was first created the basket was very different from the ones we have today, along with the basketball and some of the rules. Now everything is completly different but for the better. There are gyms, parks, rec centers a lot of different places all over the world where people can play the game for fun of try to actually make it a career. Before it was just something to do to get kids off the streets, now it has perks. Scholarships are given out, and many are getting paid millions of dollars to play the game. I think this is a perfect blog about the game then and now because a lot of people can really learn from this. It makes me wonder if people really know the complete history behind the sport even college and NBA players.

I'm learning more about College basketball, and basketball skills. In particular what I'm wondering about is, if I would have learned these skills and have been playing basketball since 9th grade would i be ready to go to the college level? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it breaks down all of the skills a player must have to be great at his/her game. I went to this article because these are things i would like to know because i want my game to be at the highest level possible. "Vision is communication". The quote I chose here is saying vision is very important on the court. It is probably the most important because you play better when you see everything and can read what the deffence/ offence is doing. Also when your on offence and your a person that likes to throw passes and fill up the asists stat vision is very important. You want to throw the deffence off by throwing no look passes and ally oops, you can only do that with court vision.

Sam plays in the orchestra, but none of "his classmates knew that he was undocumented." He wants to go to college, but colleges are too expensive. He cannot apply to financial aid as other people do. So it is very hard for him to go to college.

Sam wasn't aware of the deadlines.

I was searching about future actions i could take and this passage came to my view. "University selection is the most important aspect of the application process and this should be done after a lot of thought and research and should not merely be based on a "brand". Select a university that will encourage your intellectual journey. Of course, geographical location, size, type of institution, faculty and costs also need to be taken in consideration. Also try and chose a university which has a lot of international students, as this way you will get to associate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Make sure you apply to at least 3 universities of your choice so that you always have fallback options. Your selected institutions should be well spread in terms of level - some ambitious, some regular and some safety nets. " This passage is basically telling us how to choose your ideal college and what action should you take regarding this. I think this passage is quite helpful. Because i don't know about these things before and i now know those things so i know what to do. After seeing the whole thing, i started to have more confidence toward college.

I'm learning more about things that occur in the medical field right now, and in particular what i'm wondering about is this news paper article.I was researching the question online, and this news item caught my attention because this old man has been a pedittrican for many years and he sexually assualted and drugged all his patients. I think that he is stupid for doing this. It is not worth waiting all your time in medical scholl and in college to throw your career down the drain. "A disgraced pediatrician found gulty of sexually assaulting his patients has had his medical licence suspended for a period of seven years." The quote i chose here is basically saying that a medical doctor was found gulity of sexually assualting his patients for seven years and he had his liscene taken away for 7 years. I think this is wrong because, it makes me wonder the type of things that other people do when they are in the medical field.I think that some people take advantage of their careers and they think that they won't get caught.

Have you ever felt like you need to go shopping and shopping everyday until you brought everything you wanted? Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been Shopaholics. I remember seeing this movie last year that made me wonder about people who are Shopaholics. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that being Shopaholic is really bad because it damages your living style. From what I have heard, being Shopaholic isn't something bad. It's just a way of being. You just shop and shop. It's not like if you creating a crime. I know that it's like a sickness that can't make you stop. But if it's really affecting your life then you have to give that up. For example, I heard that Shopaholic is more like able to be out of control. Shopping does not only effect the shopper it also effects family members, spouses, loved ones and friends. Many times married over active spenders will be divorced and in debt before they can control their spending habits. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true. One thing that I know for sure about is that Shopaholics do suffer a lot when it comes to money. Many Shopaholics end up having a big amount of budget. And I also know that Compulsive shopping is a serious condition that affects thousands of people's lives in America. Another fact that I know is that one major key to successfully overcoming compulsive shopping is simply taking responsibility for ones own actions. Stop denying the problem and or blaming others. Shopaholics who truly want help need to say enough is enough. Once a shopaholic realizes that shopping is just not worth the troubles that are caused from shopping excessively things get much easier. Make the decision to change and change will come. I'm learning about Nursing Programs right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is what does a nursing program offer and is it good? I'm learning more about college basketball, and how and when it was created. What i am really interested in knowing more about is, what made James Naismith (the founder of the game) come up with such an idea? What made him decide one day to take a basket and throw something inside of it and make it a big sport. I decided to research my questions online and this one article in the NY Times caught my attention because it explained why he created the game. I chose the article i did because, what better way to find out more about the game then finding out more about the person that started it. "James Naismith and his wife, Maude, practicing basketball, a game he invented in 1891 as a way to keep rowdy students busy during winter." The quote i chose above basically is explaining James Naismith's reason for creating the sport and who he created it for. He wanted to get the kids that had nothing to do and were going down bad roads to discover the game and get interested in it. Over a winter break or a vacation instead of doing something destructive, they could go and play this sport. I think this is perfect because the game was invented in 1891 and still exists in 2009. It is my favorite sport and has changed a lot over time. It went from using an actual peach basket with no hole in the bottom to having metal rims with nets. The game has evolved into something great and with never go away.
