The overarching goals of the Open Annotation Collaboration (OAC) are to facilitate to emergence of a Web and resource-centric interoperable annotation environment that allows leveraging annotations across the boundaries of annotation clients, annotation servers, and content collections, to demonstrate the utility of this environment, and to see widespread adoption of this environment.

Annotea is a W3C LEAD (Live Early Adoption and Demonstration) project under Semantic Web Advanced Development (SWAD). Annotea enhances collaboration via shared metadata based Web annotations, bookmarks, and their combinations. By annotations we mean comments, notes, explanations, or other types of external remarks that can be attached to any Web document or a selected part of the document without actually needing to touch the document. When the user gets the document he or she can also load the annotations attached to it from a selected annotation server or several servers and see what his peer group thinks. Similarly shared bookmarks can be attached to Web documents to help organize them under different topics, to easily find them later, to help find related material and to collaboratively filter bookmarked material.

A Semantic content editor based on TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor. RDFaCE is created as a proof of concept for WYSIWYM (What You See Is What You Mean) concept. WYSIWYM aims to enable end-users to easily annotate their content using RDFa and Microdata markups. RDFaCE employs external NLP APIs to suggest namespaces, properties, URIs and to automatically annotate content.

SOBOLEO is a system for web-based collaborative engineering of SKOS ontologies and annotation of web resources. Users collaboratively create a taxonomy, use it to annotate web resources and use it as background knowledge during search.

Super Stream Collider (SSC) is a platform, which provides a web-based interface and tools for building sophisticated mashups combining semantically annotated Linked Stream and Linked Data sources into easy to use resources for applications. The goal of the SWS Challenge is to develop a common understanding of various technologies intended to facilitate the automation of mediation, choreography and discovery for Web Services using semantic annotations. The intent of this challenge is to explore the trade-offs among existing approaches. Additionally we would like to figure out which parts of problem space may not yet be covered.

This dataset contains information about multi-media content published by the European Parliament at http://audiovisual.europarl.europa.eu/. Media assets of type video, audio and image are contained. All assests are annotated with primary metadata (e.g., length, resolution, size, etc.), as well as topic metadata. Where topics are people, those are represented as complex resources in their own right, with names, roles in organisations, etc. Organisations are located in countries according to the Kasabi country dataset.

rNews is an approved standard for using semantic markup to annotate news-specific metadata in HTML documents. rNews has been developed by the IPTC, a consortium of the world's major news agencies, news publishers and news industry vendors. After a couple of months of development rNews is at production level now, version 1.0 was approved in October 2011. The IPTC welcomes feedback on how to improve the standard in the rNews Forum.

A semantic wiki engine is a specific kind of wiki engine that extends the wiki's function of collaborative content management with Semantic Web technologies. The Gene Ontology project is a major bioinformatics initiative with the aim of standardizing the representation of gene and gene product attributes across species and databases. The project provides a controlled vocabulary of terms for describing gene product characteristics and gene product annotation data from GO Consortium members, as well as tools to access and process this data.

KnowWE implements a (refined) concept of semantic wikis: Besides basic ontological knowledge - such as the definition of classes, taxonomic and user-defined properties - KnowWE is able to represent problem-solving knowledge that is applied on selected classes of the ontology. Every wiki page embeds not only semantically annotated text and multimedia but also explicit problem-solving knowledge. The embedded knowledge can be used to actually derive the concept related to the particular wiki article.
