Food Game - 8 views

  •
A game to practice food vocabulary (fruit, vegetables, drinks, meat, desserts...). Students should find foods indicated by chief's list on the side by click on them in a kitchen. I piloted this game with a 12 years-old neighbor of mine, who studies English at elementary level. He was pretty much engaged in the game. Though the food list at side is restricted, foods in the kitchen are not. This makes students to look around to find the food indicated rather than simply choose from a limited set of choices. As there are other food items as well, it also provides an opportunity to teach new food vocab. When the list is done for the 1st time, playing the game again allows to practice new items and a new list is provided. It's definitely more interactive than usual paper-based activities. In case of using it in a class, the teacher can also add some speaking tasks for group work.

Karine: ya, it is good interactive game for young learners of advance beginner/elementary level. Adelina: Glad to hear that. Actually the boy with whom I tried this also was pretty engaged in the game and few days ago when I met him and asked him to recall the words he learned back then, he almost named all of them. It provides a good visual for learning I suppose.

Knowing how you can compose a persuasive essay is crucial to your progress in school in view of the fact that you'll be expected to write argumentative papers more frequently as opposed to any one of the the rest of the categories of paper.

Great for learning concepts of "green" for kids. May need to pre-teach some of the vocabulary and concepts first

Advance level English listening exercises - 1 views

  •
These exercises are good for developing students' listening, reading, and writing skills. In addition to these skills, it also develops students' vocabulary. While listening and watching the songs or a video poem, the students will have opportunity to write down the missing words in a given space and later on check the answers. I used this type of exercises with my students and to tell the truth they liked them very much. This type of exercises can be used at the end of the lesson or in the middle of it, when teacher notice some boredom during the lesson. They play as a good refresh. After listening the song, the teacher may discuss it with students (as I did) or even translate. There are also some words at the end of each song and students may learn them as well.

Vocabulary Jungle - 1 views

  •
This game is for students of advance level. It promotes the students' vocabulary skills.
  •
The activity is to develop vocabulary in certain limited topics. This could be applied for from intermediate level, since the words in charts do not usually met often. I would add that the student knew some names of flowers and anilmas, but the rest of the words were difficult and unknown to him.

Animals :) :) - 2 views

This is a nice game for elementary level students through which they can learn the names of animals! The best thing about this game is that it has four sections: 1-shows the animal and pronounces the name along wit providing the written variant 2- it checks spelling VS. pronunciation 3-it checks pronunciation VS. picture 4- it checks spelling VS. picture. I tried it with elementary level students (two) and it was quite effective!!!!
  •
Thanks Gayane for this game. I tried this game with my cousin who is 5 years old and only knows 10 letters of the English alphabet. We played this game together and he pretty liked it. He only knew the name of some of the animals but he doesnt recognise the written form of letters. therfore, I skipped the writing parts. I perticularly liked the part which he should listen to the names and then point me the animal to put the name under it. By the way, I used this game just to entertain him not to teach him. It think this approach helped him to just enjoy it as a game not a lesson. Thanks again.

Free Rice - fight hunger in the world - 1 views

  •
This is a very good activity to improve vocabulary. What is more interesting and even important about this site is that while you play, you can earn grains of rice for each correct answer that will be donated for charity, to help stop hunger in the world. You can also play with grammar here (free rice grammar). There are 60 levels for vocabulary and 5 levels for grammar. They increase by difficulty as you proceed. While trying this with my students, what was so exciting for them was that they learned by answerng correctly they are particpating in a humanitarian act and this greatly motivated them to answer the tests and learn new vocabulary. Though we did just the first 2 levels, the next session almost all of them said that they kept playing it to collect more rice and for this they had learned a large number of new vocabulary. They also said they are gonna play it again when finished both to collect more rice for hunger as well as review what they had learned.
  •
interesting and motivating activity. Just like your Ss I had the feeling that I'm helping hungry people. I wish I could!
  •
Actually Armineh jan u did if you collected 100 grains of rice. I've checked the legitimacy of the cite and it is run by UNICEF.

podcast with support pack elementary listening reading cohesive order of sentences voca... - 4 views

The PDF file includes a great range of various exercises. This activity is very useful as students learn to read and write while they are listening. Students need to read through the questions in the exercises in the practice materials before listening to the podcast. While they're scanning the text they will get an idea about what they are going to listen to. They have to read the instructions of each exercise carefully, as sometimes they must listen for the 'right' answers. But in some of these questions, they must choose the one answer that is not possible or wrong. These exercises are also appropriate for those who intend to take IELTS or iBT exams later. My students did this activity; they liked it and didn't get bored (the variety of the exercises made them busy and concentrated). I gave them some other podcasts with their support packs and saw their gradual improvement.

English golf- Present Perfect Tense - 3 views

  •
This game is intended for intermidiate level of EFL students who may practice Present Perfect Tense, play it, forming sentences with the words of each colomn that offers them, pay attention to the correctness of the formed sentence, because if wrong words are picked from the colomns, they won't go ahead and will be stuck. It helps to revise the students' grammar competence and stay in a good shape:) Strongly recommended for higher level of learners!

English grammar for ESL kids: am, are, is (1) - 2 views

  •
Mini grammar lessons for kids learning English: am, are, is - positive form. I tried this activity with one of my students during a private class. After many times of explanations of "to be" verb, I tried this game with him and found it very helpful. This game both teaches and gives practice for the target structure. I taught positive, negative and interrogative forms of verb "to be" with this game, and my student liked it, even playing it at home.

This is a listening vocabulary game for beginners - a productive and interesting way for practicing the target vocabulary. Ss need to turn on their speakers or put on their headphones, click the top and match with the bottom.

This game serves for elementary students to practice their skills in food vocabulary. The game is good not only in terms of food names but also because it helps practice names of food portions (e.g. "a lump of sugar," "a bar of chocolate," etc.
