Text Terminator destroys texts, you have to reconstruct them. You'll see the text dotted, click on the first dot to listen to the text and then type the words to reconstruct it. Good activity for listening skill. I found this very useful to practice listening and develop vocabulary. I tried this with a friend of mine (Upper in level). He said that he liked the practice very much and at times challenging. I believe that this is more appropriate for upper/advanced students. Alice is a bot (robot) with A.I. (artificial intelligence). You can chat with her, and she'll speak back to you. She never gets bored or tired of talking with you. She can answer math questions, tell you where most countries are and what their capitals are,and she even knows a few pretty funny jokes. She at times makes mistakes, but overall performs very well. She can understand you a lot better if you type carefully. Your students can chat with Alice to practice English, but they have to try to type and spell carefully. They need to take their time, and think about good grammar, good vocabulary and making good sentences. They can use their conversation as a practice time to apply what they have learned in English. You can chat with Alice anytime. The first 2500 exchanges each month have more animation and even have speech. I tried chating with her for half an hour and I should confess that I fell in love with her! She can nicely initiate discussions or answer your questions. A great tool to both practice language and also learn new things from her.

Using this site, you can Improve your students compositions dramatically, teaching them how to plan their ideas first. This programme will help them create and print a map with the ideas they need. I tried this with a couple of my private students who are studying for iBT TOFEL examination. They stated that using this map they could write a sentence or a paragraph for every idea and this way they had a coherent essay, well organized and much better than the usual messy stuff they would produce formerly.

This is a very good activity to improve vocabulary. What is more interesting and even important about this site is that while you play, you can earn grains of rice for each correct answer that will be donated for charity, to help stop hunger in the world. You can also play with grammar here (free rice grammar).There are 60 levels for vocabulary and 5 levels for grammar. They increase by difficulty as you proceed. While trying this with my students, what was so exciting for them was that they learned by answerng correctly they are particpating in a humanitarian act and this greatly motivated them to answer the tests and learn new vocabulary. Though we did just the first 2 levels, the next session almost all of them said that they kept playing it to collect more rice and for this they had learned a large number of new vocabulary. They also said they are gonna play it again when finished both to collect more rice for hunger as well as review what they had learned.

This cartoon can be used to practice the four skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening. Suggestion on how to use: Before students listen/read the story, they are pre-taught some new vocabulary used in the story. Then students can play the story in pictures while they're listening to it. They can click on the button "READ" to turn off and on the text. It's better if the first time, they listen to the story with the text on (reading while listening). Then, they will listen to the story with the text off and see if they can still understand. (listening) When they feel confident, they can watch the story again with the text off and try to tell the story along with the pictures, without reading (speaking). You can also ask them to write this tale down as a composition (about 250 words or more if you want to). Vocabulary can also be boosted through story. Students can also come up with their own ideas by discussing where they would go if they had a magic carpet. I tried this with my young advance elementary students and it was pretty successful. we had also a very engaging discussion in which students said they would have gone if they have had a magic carpet. They also very much liked the cartoon itself.

I tried this video back in NY while teaching to ESL adult students. They were intermediate students, though with good english knowledge. I was supposed to teach idioms and this video helped me to first remove myself from being the center of attention and second to help students learn the idioms more easily, as the visualizations readily stick in their mind. The students very much liked the video and its humor refreshed the class atmosphere. However, I suggest to include some post-task exercises both written and spoken to reinforce them. There are other categories such as eye idioms as well which can be used to teach idioms in a fun way.

A set of games to practice prepositions of time and place. To be tested.

A game to practice food vocabulary (fruit, vegetables, drinks, meat, desserts...). Students should find foods indicated by chief's list on the side by click on them in a kitchen. I piloted this game with a 12 years-old neighbor of mine, who studies English at elementary level. He was pretty much engaged in the game. Though the food list at side is restricted, foods in the kitchen are not. This makes students to look around to find the food indicated rather than simply choose from a limited set of choices. As there are other food items as well, it also provides an opportunity to teach new food vocab. When the list is done for the 1st time, playing the game again allows to practice new items and a new list is provided. It's definitely more interactive than usual paper-based activities. In case of using it in a class, the teacher can also add some speaking tasks for group work.

Actually the boy with whom I tried this also was pretty engaged in the game and few days ago when I met him and asked him to recall the words he learned back then, he almost named all of them. It provides a good visual for learning I suppose.
