Testing Caprét - 1 views

  •
"I've been testing the alpha release of CaPRéT , a tool that aids attribution and tracking of openly licensed content from web sites. According to the Caprét website. When a user cuts and pastes text from a CaPRéT-enabled site: The user gets the text as originally cut, and if their application supports the pasted text will also automatically include attribution and licensing information. The OER site can also track what text was cut, allowing them to better understand how users are using their site." The attribution below was automatically added when I pasted in the text above. Interesting indeed and some good stuff happening in this space. This is a cool greasemonkey script to generate attribution for CC images on Flickr. Works as an embed - would be good to tweak and have a plain text attribution including the CC variant details.

"Science has always been based on a fundamental culture of openness.  The scientific community rewards individuals for sharing their discoveries through perpetual attribution, and the community benefits by through the ability to build on discoveries made by individuals.  Furthermore, scientific discoveries are not generally accepted until they have been verified or reproduced independently, which requires open communication."

ImageCodr.org - 2 views

  •
Great little app that lets you grap the license and other details from a flickr image.  Intended to be used when you link to an image and ensure you attribute it correctly. "With ImageCodr.org, there is no need to do all this manually, you simply enter in the URL of the picture page (as seen in your browser) you are interested in and ImageCodr.org will generate the ready to use HTML code. It will also display a brief and easy license summary, so you don't get in legal trouble because you missed something."
