Breaking the barriers of time and space: the dawning of the great age of librarians - 4 views

  • We connect people to knowledge. We bring people together with the intellectual content of the past and present so that new knowledge can be created. We provide the ways and means for people to find entertainment and solace and enlightenment and joy and delight in the intellectual, scientific and creative work of other people. This is what we have always been about. [7]

This could be a good 'manifesto' for our role description as teacher librarians.
  •
Purpose: This lecture, reflecting on future roles, posits the potential dawning of a "great age of librarians," if librarians make the conceptual shift of focusing on their own skills and activities rather than on their libraries.

YouTube Audio Library Features Tons of Free Music to Use in Classroom Multimedia Projec... - 5 views

  •
Some good news today from YouTube. I just learned about this gigantic step YouTube took by allowing people to download music for free from its new service called YouTube Audio Library. This is not a comprehensive library and don't expect to find every piece of music you want there but still it is a very good start and is one of the best platforms we can use with our students to access free music downloads.

Google Is Eating The Internet - Phil Pearlman - 1 views

  •
Early on, while every internet company was trying to get you to and keep you on its website, Google was busy sending you away happy. People would go to Google to search, find what they were looking for and then leave. It was a genius and counterintuitive move.

Last Call - Medium - 0 views

  • Contrary to the contrived ignorance of media reporters, the future of the daily newspaper is one of the few certainties in the current landscape: Most of them are going away, in this decade.
  • rom the advertiser’s point of view, the nation’s newspapers have become little more than a blue-bag delivery service, with a horoscope and enough local sports inside to get people to open the bag.
  • first, get good at understanding and presenting data. Second, understand how social media can work as a newsroom tool. Third, get whatever newsroom experience you can working in teams, and in launching new things.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • The death of newspapers is sad, but the threatened loss of journalistic talent is catastrophic. If that’s you, it’s time to learn something outside the production routine of your current job.
