The State Library of Victoria is the major reference and research library in Victoria, responsible for collecting and preserving Victoria's documentary heritage and making it available through a range of services and programs. My Place in History, a new educational programme for Australian upper primary schools, is a web-based programme designed to teach students about the concepts of change and diversity - of backgrounds, in family structures, and the many economic, political and social circumstances in both our distant and more recent history that have contributed to who we are today and how we all came to be living in Australia.

This site enables you to see what is going on in Australia and around the world. I use the Calendar of Events to see what is coming up and to also remind me of what is coming up. I am then able to prepare lessons or focus on an event and obtain information that is required, to share with the classes and my colleagues. Very, very helpful :)

"Why good teachers leave teaching"

Interesting article. I have over thirty-five years' continuous experience as a teacher and librarian and am unemployable - I am simply "too expensive" to hire. Why spend $80,000+ on me when you can hire a graduate for tens of thousands less? I have knowledge, experience and skills that would be needed and valued by any school, but the Almighty Dollar rules nowadays. So this "good teacher" has left teaching, even though I still think I have much to offer. I am now studying in a field well away from education and planning a career in my new field. It's a shame that I have left education in this negative fashion, but I'm moving on, hopefully to bigger and better things.

The final round of government funding is currently being distributed to schools all around Australia. So far over 967,000 computers have been bought, infrastructure built and (most) teachers up-skilled to benefit from the acquisition.
