Insects are awesome! | Playlist | TED.com - 0 views

TED videos would be a great video source to share with the 2nd grade teachers who teach insects. It has current videos, with fascinating facts and real pictures. The days of the Magic School Bus on VHS need to be transformed to show teachers new sources of videos to show to students, so students can be aware of the current issues with the insect world and learn new facts about insects that they may have never known!

NASA Resources on OER Commons - 0 views

After going through the websites listed, I thought the easiest and most organized one was the OER Commons (www.oercommons.org). I specifically liked their science and technology ideas and found so...

Old Standards v. Common Core: A Side-by-Side Comparison of English Language Arts - Foun... - 0 views

I tagged this site because I think it helps teachers to save time. When the CCSS first rolled out, my district spent a lot of time reinventing the wheel. Much the the AASL Crosswalk, I think teachers would find this tool useful. I would first introduce this source to them in a quick over-view. I would then sit in small groups or one on one and help teachers realign their standards to the new the CC.

I would suggest the use of this OER to 3rd grade teachers. Currently in collaboration with the library, 3rd grade students conduct a research assignment on the animal of their choice. Part of my collaboration effort is to teach the students about the various sources that are out there and how to use their effectively. I think this Encyclopedia would come in handy when students are prepared to collection information on their animal of choice.

Although this TAG is a broad choice, I think the it would suit any classroom setting. I think a major draw to this source would be its alignment to the common core. I would introduce this source to teachers in a professional development setting, as well as refer to it in my own collaborative teaching efforts. (Now I just need to remember all my passwords and usernames for these sites.) :)

Khan Academy would be a great resource for teachers and administrators looking for help with RTI needs. There are sections for every content area where students can test their skills via an online assessment. After several questions, content is adjusted to the specific learning level of the individual student.

This is great for auditory and visual learners taking different steps with them. The site begins various practices or content knowledge with an interactive assessment of what you know, what you need review, and what it recommends to build upon the knowledge that the student indicates they have yet to learn or are unfamiliar with. In a sense, it differentiates and it assesses as you interact. Learn for free about math, art, computer programming, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, finance, history, and more. Adventures in Mobilizing a Library - 2 views

I think that this OER is interesting. In a collaborative effort with the Chemistry department, these idea could be put into place. Often times, students are only able to read about dangerous chemicals to their danger factor of having them in schools. By sharing this reality app with the teachers in the Chemistry department, we could bring new experiences to the students. I'm excited to try this one out!

This would be a great page for any LMS to have bookmarked as a resource page to recommend Web 2.0 tools to teachers. It is also a great resource to post to a library or district website for students and staff to access. The list is categorized to help find online tools according to the type of need or product for a given unit or lesson.

understanding copyright - YouTube - 0 views

This video can be used in the classroom to show the definition of Fair Use. Although the voices are very monotone it does a very nice job of explaining the misinterpretations of Fair Use and the consequences of not abiding by the rules of Fair Use and Copyright. I would embed this video with a link to this video and give the creators credit for creating if I were to use this in class.

Copyright Basics - YouTube - 1 views

This is a very interesting video on copyright. The voices and background music are very catchy. I would have students watch this video and then as a class create a googledoc of a simplified version of what they learned. A "For Dummies" version and the we could post this to our Moodle or learning platform to remind us how copyright works and what we can and cannot do.
