Be Internet Awesome with Google | WISELearn Resources - 2 views

  •
"Be Internet Awesome is a collaboration between Google and the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe.org). It is "a multifaceted program designed to teach kids the skills they need to be safe and smart online." The resource includes a game called, Interland, that can be a stand alone tool as well as a full curriculum that enables teachers to teach digital citizenship fundamentals. The lesson plans are geared toward grades 3 to 5." It think this is a great free tool from Google that I had not heard about that allows teachers to gameify Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship. I played the game a bit and I wonder if maybe teachers should take it, as we had a phishing spam a few years ago where teachers gave personal information online to an email that looked like it came from our local credit union.

Astronomy - Academic Earth - 0 views

For HS courses that don't fall under AP restrictions, these materials can be helpful for retooling sections of curriculum or even adding a unit to a well rounded curriculum since the site has 5 available for Astronomy alone!

My HS health and nursing teacher is searching for new materials to help with her nutrition unit. These students are often bound for college nursing programs, so this would be a great fit to help prepare these Juniors and Seniors.

Introduction to Media Literacy: Crash Course Media Literacy - 0 views

  •
Part of a video series that covers broad topics in education in short, entertaining videos - think the "Cliff Notes" version. It would be a great introduction to a unit for students, as well as teachers to enhance their knowledge of a subject. I would recommend it for upper elementary - high school. The particular video is on Media Literacy, but there are tons of other videos too - science, math, STEAM, theater & drama, etc. There are over 8 million subscribers to their channel, so they must be good! :-)

This YouTube series explains what media literacy is, its history, and why it's important. I would use this to teach teachers and new librarians. I would also use it to teach media literacy at the secondary level.

The Science of Happiness - 0 views

  •
This resource comes from Edx which offers 820 courses in 30 subjects from 85 institutional partners. This course comes from the University of California: Berkeley and is an 8 week course on the science behind happiness. Our district has been focusing on staff and student wellness this year, specifically mental health. We have many initiatives in place and have been working with local agencies to improve access to healthcare. This would be a course staff or students could take to obtain a deeper understanding of how our bodies function and why we feel the way we do at times.

Investigating Extreme Weather Events with Interactive Activities | OER Commons - 1 views

  •
This a web page with an abundance of resources about relating to weather. The severe weather challenge piqued my interest the most. I would share this with my third grade teachers to aide in the teaching of the weather unit. For our bilingual students they do the weather unit twice, the more resources the better!

I would share this with the fourth grade bilingual teachers. We co-teach an animal unit and videos are extremely helpful, especially for bilingual students. It is a lesson plan with video links that show animals in their natural habitats.

I would share this with my pre-k and kindergarten teachers. This is a fun interactive website that focuses on patterns. Teachers would use this after they've introduced patterns to their students. This is an excellent learning center activity.

I think this is a great resource to offer my teachers so they can offer it to their students. This is a fun and easy way for pre-k and kindergarten students to learn about matching sounds to letters. Teachers will be able to use this activity at one of their learning centers. The interface is very user friendly. The graphics are colorful and engaging to young students.
