twitter, the plucky social media network with much of Facebook's reach but none of its self-adoration, received a vote of confidence from an unlikely source: the Modern Language Association. Long an indirect but potent tool of torture in English classrooms and University campuses everywhere, the MLA (and other cohorts, including APA and Chicago) released a format for quoting tweets in formal writing.

No longer is the burden of content creation on one person's shoulders. Contributors' names can be hidden or displayed at the beginning or end of each Tweet. Whether you have a small group powering a company account or thousands of people powering a group account, you can leverage the power of the crowd with GroupTweet!

This looks like a viable way to broadcast to a common twitter account both from people who have Twitter already and those who do not. Looks viable for U13s too!

One year ago, I began blogging. It was my first attempt to try something new in quite a while; to share some ideas with the world and to learn for the sake of the students who learn from me.

This past week, my first-born became legal. Not to drive, vote or drink, though; that comes later. My son turned 13 years old, making him eligible under terms of service to have his own social media account. That isn't to say he hasn't been on those sites for years, though. His social media cred is older than our daughter, who turns four in a couple months. He has had moments where he used Facebook too much, only to self-censor like a boss when he found it was cutting into his reading time. These days, his activity is largely limited to liking Doctor Who content on my geeky Pinterest board and collaborating with peers on Google (despite his original account there being deleted due to age restrictions). He has never had much interest in tweeting, but he got a video camera yesterday that may signal the beginning of a new vlog.
