A reading website for students. The best part is, students don't realize they are reading. They are too busy having fun!

A website designed to promote reading using phonics for prekindergarten to second grade. Students can practice skills through the use of songs, stories and videos.

This site offers free interactive reading activities that I've found very useful for kindergarten and beginning ELL students. The activities are formatted as games to engage the students, and they include sound features to encourage understanding of phonics and phonemic awareness. Beginning with ABCs and moving on to reading stories, this site lets students have fun while improving basic reading skills.

A great website for teachers, students, and parents. Teachers can get lesson plan ideas, additional resources to complement Scholastic News subscriptions, order items and books for the classroom, and print mini-books and other reproducibles. Students can have discussions with others who are reading the same or similar books and learn about new books and authors. Parents can find activities for their child and even learn about how their child's reading develops.

Edhelper.com has a lot of very good literature units for almost any popular novel that is studied in school. Earlier in the year in reading my students read The City of Ember and I was able to find the literature unit on Edhelper. Within the unit you can customize pretty much everything from vocabulary lists to crossword puzzles to even quizzes. You can also choose how much or how little you want to include in the unit. I find that these worksheets make nice comprehension reviews for students. One downfall to Edhelper is that you do need a membership but I do find that it is worth it.

I stumbled upon this site by chance and just love it! It has links to dozens of sites that provide practice in many different areas of reading, writing/grammar, math, science and social studies. I could easily incorporate many of the reading and writing/grammar links, especially the phonics, sight words, and spelling sites into my "word work" literacy station.

This site was created by GE to teach students about the science, technology, math, and history of light. This would work very well in our science unit about heat and light. There are areas that students can read about light, hands on activities, and experiments. For my second graders, many of the readings would need to be done together, but there are also some interactive timelines and animations that students could check out on their own. The hands on activities and experiments would also be fun to bring in to the classroom, and are probably what I would use the most. The only downfall of this site is that the link to the "school lighting challenge" is currently not working. I'd be interested in checking this out if it gets up and running.

This is a great website where you can download audiobooks to a computer. They then can be transferred to an MP3 player for listening. I have done this for sections of books that we have read in class. All you need is a public library card

Use this site to find a literacy lesson, or share a gem of your own.

Finale Notepad will allow students to actually put their music theory notes to use. Students can put their notes from class on a music staff that they can read and play on their instrument. They can even hear how things will sound before they play it themselves. This very simple demo version won't allow you to do anything extravagant, but will allow students to see the basics of music theory on a music staff instead of a notebook.

This website offers many manipulatives to help students understand, practice and review math concepts. I particularly like the fraction manipulatives. Some of my students have difficulty perceiving fractions and I believe this will be an excellent tool for exploration, practice and review.

The idea behind this website is very interesting to me, and after playing with it a bit, I did find some of the manipulatives useful. However, many of them I found to be quite cumbersome. I was really excicited about the base ten blocks manipulatives for helping my students add and subtract, and once I figured it out, it was great. However, I had to read the help directions to get to that point. If I was able to spend the time showing my students how to use these, I think it'd be a wonderful tool. However, I was hoping I'd be able to simply direct my students and their parents to this site so they could use it for help at home. I'm afraid that many of the parents would not take the time to read the help area to figure it out, and I know my students wouldn't (or wouldn't understand them if they did). So while I was initially impressed with the idea of this site, I might search for something a bit more user friendly.

With Smartmusic software, I can create and send customized assignments to my students' home computer. Students play or sing exercises into a microphone and receive instant feedback on note and rhythm reading accuracy! Because it is a lot like Guitar Hero, kids find it extremely fun and are motivated to practice and improve! The software also allows students to record and listen to themselves. I can track students' progress, grade assignments and compile portfolios of student work with the software.

This is an AMAZING site with a ton of educational apps for iPod Touch and iPad. You can view and print a list of these apps with a description and cost of each of them. Prices for the apps range from free to quite expensive, but even some of the more costly apps have free versions available. The apps are also sorted into categories such as reading, math, art, and communication.

Madlibs, sudoku, web books, reading, math! It's all here and it's FUN!!!

My own kids like this site. It is a nice way for them to use technology in an educationally sound way. And yes, I have played some of these games as well. Fun!

Times for Kids is great for social studies classes and is super easy to adapt articles for different reading and grade levels. The site also has a teacher's section with related items for download that would be easily integrated into a lesson plan for a comprehension check or group activity. The site layout and topics make current events a little more grasp-able for the younger students.

Good source to find video to use as an advanced organizer. I wish I had used this last Monday to show students video of Sonoran Wildlife before we read a selection set in the desert.

This website allows students and teachers to create imaginary Facebook pages for study purposes. Within the site you can choose from historical people such as Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill or Queen Elizabeth. Students can create a profile for their person and choose their "friends." They can also add posts and comments to their person's Fakebook page. This website can be used for book reports, character plots from novels, historical moments and many more educational purposes.

Very cool. Like Greg, I've seen myfakewall, but not this one. This will be a great thing for us to do in my 7th grade classes when we talk about cyberbullying and online safety. The students will love it!
