Math Graphic Organizers - 1 views

  •
This website does require a $20 membership per year but has a lot of useful resources. When people think of graphic organizers they don't always think of using them for math. This website has a lot of graphic organizers that are specifically applicable to math.

The Enchanted Learning website offers many resources. I had never thought of looking for graphic organizers on this site. Thanks for posting it.

Class Tools Game Creator - 3 views

  •
This website has a plethora of games that teachers can customize. You can choose from about 22 different types of games and interactive organizers and input all kinds of information that you want students to be challenged on. The games and organizers are great to use as a review for students as well as having the students create a game as part of a project or assessment. The games and organizers can be saved to a webpage or embedded into a blog or webpage (possibly even Moodle although I haven't tried it yet). One added bonus to this website is that it is free and you don't have to sign in by creating a log in or password!

There are quite a number of valuable tools on this site. There are many different types of graphic organizers and templates. You can also create some games, quizzes, and diagrams. The resources they have can be sorted by either subject or template type. They have one template called Fakebook. You can click on the picture of a famous person and see their "Fakebook." Some of them are very clever and funny. However, I noticed on the Mickey Mantle one that his comment for October 11, 1957 was that he had just lost the World Series to the Milwaukee Brewers. It actually should have said Milwaukee Braves. So I guess you have to be careful that some of the information could be inaccurate.

Big Six Organizer - 2 views

  •
The Big Six is an information seeking strategy developed by Michael B. Eisenberg and Robert E. Berkowitz that assists students in information problem solving. Teachers and librarians would greatly benefit from this organization tool to get students organized BEFORE they begin their research. Once students have their topics for research, they are able to use the Big Six strategy to guide them through their research. This pdf file will allow students to save it and once saved, they are able to click on comment and type their information into the file. There is another version of the Big Six for elementary called: Plan, Do, Review.

Treasures - 0 views

Treasures has some really good graphic organizers to help students reinforce strategies and skills. The organizers can be found on the Treasures link under the start menu on any computer from school. The Treasures website also has extra information to help teachers organize their lessons.
  •
I clicked on the oral language link and found resources for "advance organizers". Now I won't have to always create my own. Thank you for sharing.
  •
The Treasures website has some fun games that reinforce skills/concepts that are taught. We find the book we are working in, and then work on the skills specific to that week. (language arts, phonics, etc)

Watch Know - 5 views

  •
A website that feature free educational videos that are organized by subject and theme. There are so many videos here. Any time that you need a short video for just about anything, this is the place to look. For example, do you need a video that explains the history of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day? Go to the Holidays link and find the link for MLK, Jr. Day. A great resource!

I found it useful to find science videos. I like that it finds videos hosted by other sites, not just those on Watch Know. I just saw a good one from WGBH that I didn't know about.
  •
There are so many useful videos here. I like how they cover so many topics, and having them all on one site really beats trying to find student appropriate clips on you tube. I'm looking forward to showing the clip on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. next January so my kids can see some real footage of his fight for civil rights. Thank you for sharing this!
  •
I agree. I would use the "Life Skills" videos. I especially like these videos for my Child Development unit(ie.Table Manners and Teaching children Not To Bite) my students could use the skills they learn when they are babysitting or caring for younger children.
  •
I can't believe I've never heard of this site...it's awesome! I like that the videos are organized into specific categories. For example, in the music section, videos were categorized into music history, composers, instruments, music styles/genres, etc. I found an awesome 3 minute video on music advocacy that I'm going to share with my musical colleagues.
  •
For educational purposes, I think this site is actually easier to use than youtube. The search and subcategories make it very simple to find good videos to fit what you are teaching.
  •
This is a pretty sweet website! There are over 600 videos for music alone! Bill Nye the Science Guy has a 24 minute video about music that would be perfect for my music appreciation class next year.

Teachnology Timeline Creator - 2 views

This is a website that allows you to add up to six events to a timeline, which can be a great way for students to organize and make sense of materials, especially in a book with a confusing plot.

This timeline creator was very easy to use. I wish I had access to this tool when my students were reading a fictional story in which the characters traveled through time.
  •
This is a great tool to get students to get their schedule of events organized when working on a project. We could go over the project timeline and create one with this. The students would like it.
  •
This site really makes it quick and easy to create a timeline with both dates and descriptions. I plan to utilize this site for reviewing a few social studies units. As we are studying the Constitution, I have students record in their notes a list of major events in chronological order. They might actually enjoy creating a timeline using this site and printing out the results.

This timeline seems pretty simple and easy to use. I think that I could use it in my new Music Appreciation class that I'm teaching next year. It would really help students with remembering composers/artists dates.

Ted Talks - 0 views

  •
TED is a nonprofit website intended to "spread knowledge and information from the world's most inspired thinkers." TED contains information on a wide variety or topics. Particularly valuable are video presentations from experts in so many areas.
  •
"Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world!" Ted.com features thousands of short videos of people talking about topics such as technology, entertainment, business, science, global issues, etc. The videos are organized in several ways such as by newest release, date filmed, most comments in a week, most persuasive, funny, and much more! You can also participate in live question/answer discussions with some of the speakers and join ongoing blog conversations with people around the world on important topics related to the videos. I just showed my students a talk by a famous composer who directed a virtual choir and they were very inspired!

Tons of graphic organizers are available at this site, also many links to other activities on a variety of topics. Very easy to find printouts, visual aids, notetaking resources, and activities for younger students. The site also includes templates for various items, including homework coupons and other reward and recognition ideas.

NoteStar - 1 views

  •
NoteStar works a lot like Google docs in that studetns are able to collect and organize their notes, but has an added feature of preparing the students bibliography page for them.
  •
I do like the added feature of this site to help create the bibliography. No matter how many times you go over bibliographies, they are always a pain for students. This helps alleviate some of that pain.
