Wordcentral.com is a site by Merriam-Webster that allows a student to create their own dictionary.  They add new words that they learn daily.  There are also games, thesaurus, and rhyming word searches.

This gives the student and the teacher virtual on site experience with the culture and environment of the different places. Student are able to make connections with what is happening in the real world. There is directed collaboration on education and sustainability in an international setting. There are some related lessons available and links to other sites like National Geographic for related leaning activities. This appears to require some added teaching strategies but is very authentic.
