Newsela is so helpful in general, but especially helpful to teachers that teach social studies or even a kind of current events class. At first the site seems like a simple news article site. It has a bunch of articles on current events or new discoveries. What's unique about it, though, is that you can get the same article in different ways based on lexicon. You can choose the lexicon level and based on that, the article is written at different levels. For gifted/talented students, they can be given a higher lexicon level version of the article. Kids.gov: The U.S. Government's Official Web Portal for Kids... Aside from the extensive amount other grade level appropriate subjects and topics, this website has great science resources for teachers and students. There are many videos that break down subject matter, like how orbits work or what fossils tell about time. I would use it ideas on different science experiments and definitely for the videos, since sometimes you never know what you are getting with YouTube.

HowStuffWorks explains thousands of topics, from engines to lock-picking to ESP, with video and illustrations so you can learn how everything works. The name of this website says it all really- children are so curious and this website provides a video or article on pretty much any question a child has. I would definitely use this for further information on a topic, I might even have some students explore this website in order to "teach" a different topic on how something works.

Personal Learning Network (PLN)- PLN Resources - 0 views

  •
This site provides different PLN resources that students and teachers can use outside the classroom. The site also explains how to create your own PLN.
  •
I stumbled upon this site and think it's very helpful for teachers. It explains the difference between the PLN of a traditionally networked teacher versus the PLN of a Web 2.0 connected teacher. This goes to show that a Web 2.0 networked teacher has access to many more resources than a traditionally networked teacher. This website has a ton of suggestions on using instructional technology. It also gives suggestions and tools to create and then maintain a PLN as a teacher.
