GM to build electric motors for next-gen hybrid | Green Tech - CNET News - 0 views

  • build electric motors for a hybrid vehicle platform due in three years
  • To the extent that a (gasoline) engine is core, these motors will be core
  • GM opened its own battery pack manufacturing plant last year because it considers that technology, too, to be core to its strategy.

Sales of Electric Trucks and Buses Expected to Reach Nearly 160,000 Annually by 2023 - 0 views

  •
"All electric power for commercial vehicles has always been a challenge, because of the sheer size of the battery packs required to store and deliver enough energy to drive heavy vehicles over practical distances. As battery technology improves, though, electric hybrid vehicles are now gaining traction in commercial applications where the technology offers significant benefits for drive cycles that involve a lot of city driving in stop-start traffic."

Ultra-light, high performance electrical wiring, made from carbon instead of copper, ha... - 0 views

  • In the meantime, there are preparations for a large, multi-industrial project to start at the end of the year which will be an important intermediary step: a hybrid carbon-copper wire in which the carbon is dispersed throughout the copper, making the copper lighter and stronger, while further reducing transmission losses.
  • Ultra-light, high performance electrical wiring, made from carbon instead of copper, has been developed in a usable form for the first time.

E-mobility cooled cable super-fast charging - 1 views

  •
"One of the highlights at the booth will be the Cooled Charging Cable - the new technology which is an ideal fit for high-power charging stations. The Cooled Cable can multiply power-throughput of a charging cable and reduce charging times to below 20 minutes, making rapid charge times for all electric cars possible. This innovation puts super-fast charging within reach - even with big battery packs of new electric vehicles and trucks. The cables are thin, simple and easy to handle, bend-protected and have ideal grip position."

Japan - Furukawa Electric to supply high voltage rectangular magnet wire to Toyota - 0 views

  •
Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd. announced that its magnet wire producing subsidiary Furukawa Magnet Wire has co-developed a rectangular magnet wire with a voltage resistance of up to 1,400-1,500V. The higher voltage rating and shape factor is believed to make the cable suitable for motors within small hybrid energy vehicles (HEVs) or electric vehicles (EVs). The company is supplying Toyota with this magnet wire for use in its 'AQUA' HEV. Furukawa will expand monthly production at its plant in Mie, Japan by 50% to 300t in this fiscal year to meet demand from rising production of AQUA and to supply other HEV/EV manufacturers.

Electromobility is one of Leoni's future growth drivers - 0 views

  • The focus is on high-voltage cables and cable harnesses for high power transmission. These special products are needed because, in cars and commercial vehicles with electric, hybrid or fuel cell drive, 12 volts no longer prevail on their own as they do in conventional vehicles with combustion engines. Instead, electrified powertrains involve voltages up to 1000, which require the cables and components to have special properties with respect to conductivity, mechanical flexibility, thermal capacity and safety

Japan - Furukawa Electric begins production of aluminium harnesses for cars - 1 views

  •
Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. said that it had recently started mass production of aluminium wire harnesses, which it promised can reduce weight by 40-50% from traditional copper harnesses aiding weight reduction in automobiles. It will supply wire rods from a factory in Indonesia to manufacture and assemble the electric wires in a subsidiary in Vietnam and it will manufacture harnesses used in the door section. The news follows Furukawa's early December announcement of an agreement to acquire the automotive connector business of Mitsubishi Cable Industries, Ltd. Furukawa said that it expected the acquisition to aid the development of new aluminium wire harness technologies and high voltage cables for electric and hybrid vehicles.

EU Super Coated Conductor Cable - 0 views

  • This technology is now moving towards the pre-commercial stage through already announced or under discussion multi-hectometre cable projects. However, these multi-filamentary wires are expected to be replaced in the near future by a generation of cheaper HTS tapes, the Coated conductors (CC). According to their final report, SUPER3C is one of the first cables in the world using second generation (2G) HTS tapes as current carrying elements. The 2G-hybrid conductor utilises the advantages of both superconductivity and copper, enabling it to work and interconnect smoothly with conventional network components.
