The Largest Untapped Automotive Market on the Planet-The Islamic Republic of Iran - 1 views

  •
"At a time when Iran's economy is tied up with sanctions, limiting its international trade capacities, it managed to sell more than a million vehicles (885,000 passenger vehicles and 128,000 light commercial vehicles) in 2012, enforce Euro IV norms in 8 cities including Tehran, Karaj, Arak, and Tabriz, convert all public cars into Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) compliant vehicles, and successfully implement a vehicle scrappage program to get very old, highly polluting vehicles off the streets of Iran. The prospect of such a country opening up to trade, giving an opportunity for global automotive companies to be a part of its growth, certainly creates buzz in the industry. Iran sold close to 860,000 passenger vehicles in 2014, 88% of which were sold by Iran Khodro Industrial Group (IKCO) and SAIPA under different marquees. With around 11.7 million vehicles on the road, the aftermarket potential is massive and the average age of vehicles is steadily increasing."

Japan - Mitsui Sumitomo Metal Mining Brass & Copper to produce 5,450t/m in H2 FY2010-2011 - 0 views

  •
Mitsui Sumitomo Metal Mining Brass & Copper, a Japanese brass and copper alloy strip fabricator, plans to produce an average of 5,450t/m in H2 FY2010-2011, ending in March 2011. The company holds client orders of several hundred tonnes until the end of 2010 and considers that demand will be steady. However, it remains cautious about demand from the automotive industry as it may decline in early 2011. According to production plans, H2 FY2010-2011 output in Saitama, Japan, will amount to 3,600t/m whilst that in Mie, Japan, to 1,850t/m. Actual production in H1 FY2010-2011 reached 5,400t/m (3,600t/m in Saitama and 1,800t/m in Mie). It was reported that the automotive industry accounts for 45% of the company's output. Automotive makers are expected to cut their output by 20%, now that the Japanese government's eco-friendly car subsidy scheme has ended. As a result, automotive component makers are anticipated to cut production by 5-10%. To respond to that possible downturn, Mitsui Sumitomo Metal Mining plans to increase sales to consumer electronic product manufacturers.

Automotive market maintains a steady pace - 0 views

  • The electronic content, and thus the interconnect content, has been increasing in light vehicles, and this trend will continue through this forecast period.
  • Aluminum wire increasingly is used in passenger car wire harnesses. To reduce weight and improve gas mileage, the automotive companies are turning to aluminum wire, among other solutions. Aluminum wire always has the potential issue of galvanic corrosion between the wire and the beryllium-copper or phos-bronze contacts. Companies like TE Connectivity and Delphi have come up with solutions that alleviate this concern.
