Delphi Automotive, the wiring harness and component maker, is opening a new manufacturing facility at Moldova Noua, in the southwest region of Romania. The site will enable the company to produce wiring harness modules to meet increasing demand from vehicle manufacturers across Europe and will work closely with other Delphi facilities in the country to ensure efficiency and flexibility for its customers. Plant operations are being deployed over two phases, the company initially opened the Moldova Noua facility for testing on the 4th April and intends to open the additional 2,400 square metres of the facility in September 2011.

Yangzhou Baosheng Copper Industry, a large Chinese manufacturer of wire and cable, announced on 12th December that it had placed an order with Germany's SMS Meer for a CONTIROD system to be installed at its plant in Baoying, Jiangsu province. The tiny community of Carmacks with a year-round population of 500 is still considered an important service center for mining and for transportation, a century after it was a popular rest stop for the Yukon gold rush. However, members of the Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation want Western Copper to negotiate a better environmental engineering solution as part of an Impacts Benefits Agreement with the community. Located 38km northwest of the Village of Carmacks and 192 km north of Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory, the Carmacks copper project is planned to be an open-pit operation that will yield about 14,000 tonnes of copper cathode annually. Western Copper has targeted production to begin during the fourth quarter of 2010. Ouglich, November 20, 2008 - Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, held a grand opening ceremony on November 20 to mark the official launch of production at its Ouglich plant in Yaroslavl Oblast, Russian Federation.

Luvata officially opened its first copper tube plant in Mexico, aiming to fabricate tubes for the HVACR industry. The company sees the current downturn in the commercial tube market as a convenient time to establish its position in the marketplace and be ready when the market picks up. The Monterrey-based plant has started with small but steady deliveries since mid-June. Currently, the plant employs 180 staff with the plan to raise workforce to 250 when the full capacity level of 2,500t per month is reached in H1 2010. Luvata aims to supply several major clients but also expand its clientele to new and smaller Mexican customers. The company intends to differentiate itself by offering just-in-time deliveries, enabling its clients to run reduced inventory levels.

Ducab-HV, a joint venture between the Dubai and Abu Dhabi governments, has opened a new factory in Jabel Ali, Dubai for the production of single core copper/aluminium conductor power cables with a voltage range of 66kV to 400kV. The plant will increase Ducab's production capacity by 15,000 tonnes of conductor per annum. The company estimates that production will meet the full infrastructural development demands of the UAE. In addition, production is expected to be sufficient to allocate 75% of total output for supplying the GCC, European and African export markets.
