January saw the adoption of a global high speed standard for 60GHz WiFi by the IEEE that follows the same, well-established pattern as other WiFi technologies. At the same time the two major industry alliances have come together to jointly develop and promote the technology. As a results device certification is expected by the end of the year, with volume roll out in 2014.

The New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium (NY-BEST) and DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability, a leading global energy consultancy and authority in testing, inspection and certification, outlined their new partnership whereby nearly $23 million will be invested to build and grow the new Battery and Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Testing and Commercialization Center in Rochester, New York.

The report by watchdog Consumer Focus, based on a survey carried out by TNS Research International, indicates that only 18% of homebuyers and tenants said that they took the EPC into consideration in their decision about a prospective property.

 “CCCA is raising the alarm again and cautioning by citing real-life failures with copper clad aluminum (CCA) communication cables offered by low cost, online suppliers,” comments Frank Peri, CCCA executive director. “These suppliers promote and advertise CMR or CMP cables that bear counterfeit certification marks or have no listing or verification marks from independent third-party testing laboratories. Using the lure of low price, some online suppliers can entice customers unaware of the true nature and quality of their cables. ”

Wi-Fi contends that the initiative promises to advance the United States towards wide-scale implementation of both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure capabilities aimed at improving traffic safety and efficiency.
