"In October, 1868, Laura Jernegan, a 6 year old girl from Edgartown, Massachusetts set out on a three year whaling voyage with her father, mother, brother and the ship's crew to the whaling grounds of the Pacific Ocean.
This website, produced by the Martha's Vineyard Museum, tells the story of Laura Jernegan and the journal she kept on her voyage. It also tells the adventurous history of whaling. "
This interactive journal was written by a 6-year-old and allows you to see her handwriting as well as use a "magic lens" to read it clearly in type. Would work great on the Smartboard. Super primary source that is primary grade appropriate! Lessons included on teachinghistory.org site.
"Players aged 8 and up shape the future of a new society while learning how to recognize ethical issues and deal with challenging situations in their own lives.
Players lead a new human colony on a distant planet. They must make difficult decisions in which there are no clear right or wrong answers but important consequences - to themselves, to others in the colony and to the planet Braxos. Players develop skills such as critical thinking, perspective-taking and decision-making. Quandary provides a framework for how to approach ethical decision-making without telling players what to think."

"This is a new version of the original 50+ Web 2.0 Ways to Tell a Story that was created in 2007. As of Oct 24, 2010 5:18 pm there are 65 Ways! If you are a person that likes watching DVD extras or seeing "The Making of..." I have a story for you, the History of 50+Ways... In this new version, I have made more places for you to directly add to the site, including your own story examples, sources of media, and advice for others you might be interested in a tool you used. See How to Contribute for more details."
I like that this new version has a section on the process of digital storytelling 1-2-3. 1 is Outlining the Story Idea, 2 is Finding Your Media (with a ton of copyright free resources linked), and 3 is finally Picking Your Tool. Excellent resource!
"New and improved chart types

"Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create
an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to
share on the web. Alice is a freely available teaching tool designed to be a
student's first exposure to object-oriented programming. It allows students to
learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animated
movies and simple video games. In Alice, 3-D objects (e.g., people, animals, and
vehicles) populate a virtual world and students create a program to animate the
objects."

"The ancient tradition of storytelling meets the digital age.
When students create a movie or interactive slideshow to tell their story, learning becomes personal.
With digital storytelling, students can:
* Improve their writing.
* Show creativity.
* Have a voice.
Digital storytelling projects lend themselves well to portfolio assessment."
KidderLit is a fun way to discover new books and authors. Every morning, while sensible people are sleeping, the folks at KidderLit and its sister site TwitrLit are hard at work, combing through the stacks of the local library. Why? So that when you wake up and rush to your computer, there will be a new literary teaser waiting for you. Every morning we'll post the first line of a young adult or children's book here at KidderLit.com. The trick is that we don't tell you what the book is or who the author is. To find out, you have to click the link to be taken to the book's page on Amazon.
"Want to learn how to quickly square a number that ends in 5? Or how to tell if a number is divisible by 3? Or maybe you'd like to learn how to calculate square roots by hand? That's the kind of fun and fascinating math tricks and trivia
you'll find here at CuriousMath.com."
This site provides the tools for you to build up an argument or description of an event, person or historical period by placing items in a virtual box. You can display anything from a text file to a movie. You can also view and comment on the museum boxes submitted by others.Thanks to Kevin Willson for sharing this one! Check it out!!!
Create a digital shoe box of items to share. Images, video, sound, and text can be placed onto the sides of "cubes" placed into compartments. A great way to do a digital show and tell without having to resort to PowerPoint.
Get a sense of what a living, moving dinosaur would look like from every angle with these 3D images. These pictures are the result of some clever detective work. Scientists examine dinosaur bones for clues about how they looked when they were alive. They can tell how dinosaurs moved, if they walked on their back legs or on all fours, and even what they ate.
