"This lesson uses the four modalities of reading (reading, writing, listening, \nand speaking) on a math word problem to bridge the gap between reading and math. \nAfter a read-aloud from the book Math Curse by Jon Scieszka and Lane \nSmith, students create their own word problems with answers. Students solve each \nother's problems. As they reread the word problems, fluency and comprehension \nincrease. Welcome to read me-a set of engaging resources for Key Stage 3 students created by the National Schools Partnership on behalf of Reading for Life. These resources have been designed to reach 11 to 14 year old boys in particular to excite them about reading in and outside of the classroom.

OKAPI! is a web-based application that allows you to enter a text sample and to format that sample as a set of Examiner and Student Curriculum-Based Assessment (CBA) reading probes. The application also computes a readability index for the sample. OKAPI! can save you hours of work in creating correctly formatted CBA reading probes that include estimates of reading level. OKAPI! gives you a range of options. You can for example change the font-type and letter-size for the CBA probes. Additionally, you can specify that either the Spache or Dale-Chall Readability Formula be used to compute a passage's readability index.
