How Facebook's New Features Will Affect Digital Marketers - 0 views

  • For years, the web was about search — that is, people using search engines to find specific things online. Now, the web is shifting toward discovery — users are increasingly letting content find them via social networks. This trend actually started a few years ago with a number of sites seeing social networks drive more referral traffic than search engines. With Facebook’s new features, I think we’ll see this trend turn into a basic tenet of web optimization, as sites will soon be able to learn so much more about their users and offer targeted, shareable content that brings in more referral traffic.

A Shot of Mobile Apps - eMarketer - 3 views

  •
"Digital is an incredibly strong vehicle to preach integration. People have to become aware of the mobile app, which is difficult to do if the app is a standalone. We e-mail our database, use search marketing campaigns and generate some kind of awareness via TV or print to drive traffic. With one brand, for example, we spent a considerable amount of money on Facebook as well as on other digital media placements to drive traffic."

Interesting....sort of the old "just because you build it, doesn't mean they will come".....

Alert: What's Coming for Open Source CMS in November 2010 - 0 views

  • In October, the Drupal (news, site) project launched a brand new Drupal.org, which now offers features such as customizable dashboards, a step by step Get Started section, integration of the Groups and Meetups sections with the rest of the site, documentation search and more. Project Founder Dries Buytaert states that this redesign is important because, "The result is not just a better Drupal.org site, but a better way of working together and a stronger, more dedicated team. It's an excellent foundation on which to build."

Like the "customizable dashboard".....can't believe the number of CMS and I'm a little sorry we didn't go with the one called Hippo.....

Mobile web and Drupal | Spy Journal 3.0 - 1 views

  • use 3rd party Drupal modules to “mobilise” your site. There is a whole Drupal group discussing this at http://groups.drupal.org/mobile.
  • optimise your main site so that it is mobile friendly
  • write specific code into a website that determines the users entry point – e.g. via cable or DSL vs. mobile. If mobile than the pages automatically redirect to a “mobile version” of the website
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should. If no one is going to go to your website on their mobile phone then don’t bother.
  • Mobile web is almost irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, though it is growing. Unless a clients business model specifically expects mobile web usage – e.g. Google search does – than it is probably an expensive exercise for very little benefit.
  • opera users account for 2.3% of all traffic (http://www.w3schools.com/Browsers/browsers_stats.asp), and the colour depth statistics suggest that mobile users are between 1 and 4 % all up.

Thought this was interesting...I know we want to stick with YouTube for the search/google stuff. but, I like the idea that this streams video based on the device used to view...and they have support for touch screens.
