    Tool Name: Padlet

One technology tool that I mentioned in an earlier post this semester was Padlet. I discussed how Padlet is a virtual space that allows users to post text, images, videos, and audio recordings. I then discussed how this program could be used to promote collaboration and critical thinking within the classroom. Either by having students use a Padlet page for exit slips, questions, or even to just share about yourself.

The reason that I chose Padlet again is because I can see this tool being used to teach younger students about digital citizenship. Once a classroom teacher or SLMS discussed online security with their students, the students could then create their own username and password. After that, they can start to respond to Padlets that the teacher has already created. I would have my students use this to show 3 fun things that they did over the weekend. This activity would also allow students to work on their communication and literacy skills.

    Tool Name: Google Forms

One assessment tool that promotes students' critical thinking, collaboration and digital literacy skills is Google Forms. In this program students can create their own questions in various formats. The questions can be multiple choice, short response, fill in the blank and even essay based. You also have the option to let users take the quiz/test that you made as many times as they'd like. Another feature of this program that I find very helpful is that you can see your student's/classes results when they take the quiz or test. This data is broken down by each question. Therefore, you can see if the whole class or some students are having a difficult time with one area from the unit. You can then use this data to inform your instruction before you administer the test or quiz to the class.

    Toontastic

One tool that promotes digital and media literacy for students in primary grades is Toontastic. This app gives students the freedom and the tools to design their own interactive stories. Students can choose a setting, design their own characters and animate different parts of their stories. I have used this application as another way for students to celebrate a writing piece at the end of a unit. This application fits within the redefinition phase of the SAMR model because it is allows students to bring their own stories to life! An idea that was once inconceivable through a pencil and a piece of paper.

    Google Forms

I have noticed that in the discussion posts, as well as the tech posts, that there is a lot of discussion around programs where students can create their own test/quiz questions. Another program that allows you to do this is Google Forms. In this program students can create their own questions in various formats. The questions can be multiple choice, short response, fill in the blank and even essay based. You also have the option to let users take the quiz/test that you made as many times as they'd like. Google Slides is a communication tool that can be used for various projects and presentations. There are many benefits to using Google Slides over PowerPoint. The first benefit is that Google Slides allows all of the group members to work on the same project at the same time on their own device. The second benefit is that you can work in Google Slides at anytime and your project will automatically save once you have made any adjustments. This is a very helpful feature for a group project in case all of the group members cannot meet at the same location at the same time. Third, Google Slides has a revision history feature. This feature allows anyone to see who has made what additions and revisions to the document. This is a very helpful feature for a teacher because it allows them to see if everyone is contributing to the group project. Finally, you don't have to email the project to yourself when it is time to present it. All you have to do is sign into your Google account and your project will be waiting for your to present in your Google Drive.

    Tool Name: Padlet www.padlet.com

As Lauren discussed, one of my favorite tools for collaboration is Padlet. Padlet is a virtual space that allows users to post text, images, videos, and audio recordings. As Lauren mentioned, the setup mimics a bulletin board. When you are designing your own Padlet there are a lot of different features that you can select from. You can allow your Padlet to have different preset themes for your background or you can upload your own pictures or pictures from internet. You can also save a template of previously created Padlets for future use. Padlet is also a very user-friendly program. The students in my class and their parents picked up this program very quickly.

One way that I use it in my classroom is for students to post things that they did over the weekend. These post are shared on Monday so that students can learn more about one another. This allows all of the students to share their interests and adventures that they went on in one space. They have gotten very creative with their posts. They started off by just listing three things they did in text to slowly adding pictures and then videos. Here is a link to the parent letter that I use if you would like it https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OsNzWkvU5zQWyTJ_Rel-ky6k5q8i_4H93iwYFe0ZWAE/edit?usp=sharing

I could also see this program being used as an exit slip where students could respond to a question(s) at the end of a lesson. Another idea for this program would be to use it as a discussion forum. You could create unit themed Padlets where students can list any questions that they have during a unit. This would allow a teacher to respond to students quickly. It can also let a teacher see if a group of students aren't understanding a topic;therefore, they can think about if this area needs to be retaught in a different manner. Finally, I was thinking about creating a Padlet for parents to use. This could be a place where they could list any questions they had for the teacher about curriculum or upcoming school events.
