"The Secret Annex lets students travel back in time to Anne Frank's hiding place.  Students can explore Anne's house in a super cool 3D interactive environment.  The Secret Annex gives students an authentic feel for the place where Anne wrote her diary while listening to stories of everyone who lived in the hiding place.  In addition to the 3D hiding place, students can review historical archive material about the war and view unique TV broadcasts where memories are shared." iLearn Technology

"With venture capital flooding into the education sector, dozens of companies popping up every day, thousands of schools buying into new technology, and millions of students and lifelong learners around the world getting on board, we need to ask if we've built the edtech house on a foundation of solid rock, or sand."

  • Libraries are reinventing themselves as content becomes more accessible online and their role becomes less about housing tomes and more about connecting learners and constructing knowledge.

  • Printed books still play a critical role in supporting learners, but digital technologies offer additional pathways to learning and content acquisition. Students and teachers no longer need a library simply for access. Instead, they require a place that encourages participatory learning and allows for co-construction of understanding from a variety of sources.

Small rooms can be opened up to allow for group projects, and the circulation desk as well as the sides of the stacks are writeable with dry-erase markers to encourage the collaboration and sharing that the previous space had discouraged.

Beautiful and amazing juxtaposition of then and now. "Using Gustav Mahler's Fourth Symphony as a sort of sonic mortar, Smith bricks the present day onto the British Film Institute's recent restoration of Parkinson and Miller's work. Actually, it's more of a keyhole effect, through which viewers can peep into the past." Beginning at 1:03 "The Strand, by the way, is as cosmopolitan a street as any we have seen, for here are housed our Colonial Brethren..." (Dominion of New Zealand building and Australia House).

Welcome to Web 3.0 - 1 views

  •
The Web 1.0 concept was simple: web pages linking to web pages. Then came Web 2.0 - a powerful movement from web pages to web applications. Web 2.0 applications have evolved into often slick viewports into proprietary or personal collections of information. This means they still primarily house data in silos inaccessible to and disconnected from the larger world, and most importantly, from each other. But as we approach 2009, the clear outlines of the new web are forming. Some call this next generation the Semantic Web, but we think that term is confining, and so, instead, we refer to it as simply Web 3.0. The new web is moving beyond connecting pages to interconnecting data objects, concepts, and things. Ultimately Web 3.0 is really about creating technology that more accurately mirrors how we see and think about the world around us.

"Flavia de Luce has a passion for poisons. Picture an ancient country house somewhere in England. The year is 1950. Picture a girl who lives there with her most eccentric family....Picture a long abandoned Victorian chemistry laboratory....Put them all together and you have a deliciously original approach to detective fiction."
